The exhibit, “Hang 10”’, runs, from April 19 through June 10, 2012, at the museum. “Hang 10” features fifty-seven Ojai Studio Artists. Michele Ellis Pracy, Ojai Valley Museum Director, asked the participating artists to select a piece of their artwork, created ten years ago, and re-work it as a new, 2012 piece. This contemplative exercise encouraged the artists to look back over time, and explore how their medium, style, subject matter, and palette have evolved in the last ten years. A critical component of the exhibit will be photographs of the original artwork placed adjacent to the re-worked pieces. Visitors will be able to compare the early work to the re-configured art, and see the evolution of each artist during the last decade. The participating artists also have the option to create a new work of art unrelated to an early piece, and instead explore the passage of time and the meaning of “10” in mythology or symbology. “Hang 10” is indeed a dual celebration, the group’s 10th anniversary of showing together, as well as a display of the individual artists’ personal journey. The exhibit, as in past years, will include student artwork by Ojai Studio Artists’ scholarship recipients. Each year, OSA selects young, burgeoning Ojai area artists for financial aid, that helps further their careers in the art field. Artworks by the scholarship winners are a part of the exhibit. The selected artists will be given scholarship awards at a special reception and awards ceremony on June 2, 2012.
