MAY 23, 24 & 25 2009 (10 AM TO 7 PM)

Topanga Roots Evolution, Theme to Topanga Days, the Best Festival Experience in Southern California During Memorial Day Weekend.

Topanga Canyon, Ca. - April 21 2009 - The 36th Annual Topanga Days Country Fair announces headlining acts BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS (May 23), SANTANA Original Lead Singer GREGG ROLIE (May 24) and THE METERS Experience w/ LEO NOCENTELLI (May 25th).

The Topanga Community Club will celebrate their 60th year this spring as a non profit serving the needs of the Topanga Canyon Residents, funding the organization’s youth & seniors programs, the grounds, ball field & volunteer built Community House. They continue in their founders tradition of promoting charitable causes and fund raising events which provide ways to unite and enrich the community and beyond. There has been no better way to achieve those goals than Southern California’s Memorial Day Gem known fondly as The Topanga Days Country Fair.

Topanga Days is a 3 day Fair & Fund Raiser celebrating Music & The Arts, held May 23, 24 & 25 2009 (Sat, Sun & Mon), on the Topanga Community Club grounds at 1440 North Topanga Canyon Blvd, Topanga, Ca. 90290. It is tucked midway between The Pacific Coast Highway near Santa Monica on the south and on the north, The San Fernando Valley & Woodland Hills. The Fair opens it’s gates from 10 AM to 7 PM into a natures paradise setting on the edge of the State Park.

Topanga Days holds a rich tradition of family fun with it’s Americana style games, such as the egg toss, sack races & the pie eating contest to name a few. The Arts are heartily supported with multiple stages filled with a diverse talent roster of music & dance, an abundance of booth vendors ranging from high end, quality art pieces, to one of a kind, affordable hand crafted gifts. No Topanga Days would be complete with out select food and drink vendors who offer up their goods to the needs of the Vegetarian and the non-Vegetarian.

Amongst the many other fine local and regional acts to grace the Topanga Days stages this year are BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS a Grammy winning band in it’s 41st year of touring with Spinning Wheel, And When I die. SANTANA Original Lead Singer GREGG ROLIE with songs Oye Como Va & Black Magic Woman. A New Orleans Jazz Fest favorite, THE METERS Experience with LEO NOCENTELLI. The Grammy’s 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award Winners & “Pioneers of Funk” with hits, People Say, Fire on the Bayou, Hey Pocky Way.

To promote the theme of the fair, Topanga Roots Evolution, Topanga Days pays a tribute to the long since gone, but not forgotten venue known as The Corral. The indoor Community House Stage will recreate the fun and funky vibe of The Corral which was a music venue in Topanga Canyon during the 60’s & 70’s. If there were still walls there to talk, would be endless stories of the beginning times of the Album Rock period and the hippie, peace, love & anti-war movements. Bands and artists such as former canyon residents Neil Young, Little Feat, Spirit, Canned Heat and so many more graced The Corral’s stage. Even Jim Morrison of The Door’s wrote the song Road House Blues about The Corral.

This years brings a fresh & newly dubbed area The Canyon Underground, which will have yet another stage with fine local & regional talent, booths and affordable items including an art walk. The Canyon Underground is being co-developed by the Community Clubs own after school program, Topanga Youth Services (TYS) and a wonderfully creative young group of Topanga’s finest from 27 Creation, a name taken via Highway 27 which follows the Topanga Creeks path.

The Topanga Elementary School Enrichment Program (TEP) will keep the youngest kids in the bunch entertained with fun, games, story telling and other activities. The Kid’s Corner, always a favorite spot for tots and a welcomed area for the parents, will run as a separate benefit for TEP, who’s mission is to fund and operate supplemental programs to enrich the educational experience of the students at Topanga Elementary Charter School.
