District Governor visits Sun Risers Rotary

District Governor Wade Nomura and his wife, Roxanne, made their official visit to the Rotary Club of Fillmore Sun Risers on Tuesday, July 26th. DG Nomura’s message included reminding the Sun Risers that Rotary has served Central and Coastal California since January 1, 1918. For decades Rotary’s presence and involvement in our region has made a positive impact on the quality of life in our local communities as well as improving the lives of people around the world. Rotary District 5240 has remained committed to all that Rotary stands for by placing SERVICE ABOVE SELF. The District Governor helped the Sun Risers present two Paul Harris Fellowship awards. Club member Tim Gurrola was honored for his enthusiasm and hard work on all club projects and as club treasurer. Veronica Morris was honored for her community service and support of the Sun Risers club. The Paul Harris Fellowship is named for Paul Harris, who founded Rotary with three associates in Chicago in 1905. A $1,000 contribution is made to the Rotary Foundation for each PHF. Rotary Foundation supports humanitarian and educational programs throughout the world. The Sun Risers also honored Irma Magana-Rodriguez with a Benefactor award certificate for a promise upon death of a $1,000 contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Upcoming events for the Sun Risers in August and September include hosting a BBQ for the FMS and FHS Interact Club students and their parents at the Fillmore Aquatic Center on August 27th ; and participating as a team in the Relay for Life on Sept. 17 & 18. August speakers include: Valerie Reed will speak on Meditation; meeting at Bob Hammond's home for signing up for Relay for Life; Actor Bob Munns; Kyle Wilson of Edward Jones; and Catherine Voekler Duggan, VC DA's office.
