Fillmore High Alumni Association Once again the Fillmore High Alumni Association is awarding Continuation Grants to Fillmore High graduates who are continuing their education at a college or university, pursuing the profession of their choice. This year eight $500 scholarships are being awarded to: Raquel Ortega Arreola, class of '99 who is attending Cal Lutheran University, majoring in Business Management and will graduate in 2010. Amy De La Piedra, class of '93, is attending Oxnard and Moorpark Community Colleges, studying to become a registered nurse. She has a few more classes to complete before she can be admitted to the Registered Nursing Program at Moorpark College. She hopes to graduate in 2011. Mario DeLaPiedra, class of 2005, has as his eventual goal to be a U.S. Congressman, but prior to starting his political carer, he would like to travel the world, pursue a Master's Degree in political science and continue his current job as an insurance agent. He is attending San Diego State University and will graduate in the fall of 2009. Ashley Grande is a 2008 graduate of Fillmore High and is in her second year at U.C.L.A., majoring in Psychology. She has been active in school activities at U.C.L.A. and also continues to participate in local activities and events in Fillmore when she has time. She hopes to graduate in 2012. Brittany Nunes will be starting her third year at U.C. Davis, majoring in Managerial Economics and History. She began her college education as a Biology major, but found out that this field was not for her, so she is pursuing a B.S. Degree in Managerial Economics as well as a B.A. in History. She would like to go to graduate school to become a CPA or to obtain an MBA, or obtain a credential and become a history teacher. Nadine Orozco, class of 2006, is attending Northland College in Minnesota, majoring in Business, and she plans to graduate in 2010. She has been very involved in campus activities, mainly being on the women's basketeball team for two years, this past year as an assistant coach. She hope to return to California upon graduating. Brianna Rojo, class of 2008, is in the Nursing program at San Francisco State University. Her first year classes consisted mainly of general education classes and the pre-requisites that are needed in order to apply for the nursing program. She will apply for the nursing program this year which will allow her admission into the official nursing program for the fall of 2010. Danielle Rojo is a 2006 Fillmore High graduate, attending U.C. Santa Barbara, majoring in Sociology with a minor in Education. She hopes to graduate in the fall of 2009, take a six month break and become a substitute teacher in Fillmore and then continue her education by going on to graduate school. She hopes to obtain here Masters in Education and her teaching credenteials. Alumni Newsletter--The August issue of Flashbacks, the alumni newsletter, will go in the mail Wednesday of this week, so some of you should be receiving it along with this issue of the Gazette. Another great editing job by Kathleen Penrod McCreary, with many great articles from alumni members as well as pictures of the 2009 alumni dinner.
