At last week’s Fillmore Rotary Club Meeting Program Chair Barb Filkins introduced speaker Lisa Fusano. Lisa talked about the Young Eagles Program that was launched in 1992. The purpose was to give interested young people, ages 8-17, the opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. The volunteers who participate in the Young Eagles program are local members of EAA who are giving their time and aircraft to make the flight possible. For most young people this is their first flight, and some comments made were “I didn’t know there were so many pools” and” the cars look like matchbox toys”. The Young Eagles learn what real pilots do on the ground and in the air, and they remember this experience for the rest of their lives. Many come back years later to get their pilot’s license. |
