Cruz Martin Munoz known as Martin passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 14th, 2023. Martin was born on April 28th, 1946 and was the second oldest of seven children to John and Lydia Munoz. Martin grew up in the city of Fillmore where he attended Fillmore High school and participated in track, basketball, and football. He graduated in 1965.
Martin joined the United States Army in 1966, during his service for our country, he severed in Vietnam. Martin was a Vietnam Veteran. After returning from the war, he worked at General Motors and then joined the Laborer’s Union and then went to work for the family business Munoz Pipe Company where the Munoz family provided irrigation services to local agriculture industries for their crops. Martin eventually was hired as a Maintenance worker for the City of Fillmore where he worked his way up to the Public Works Supervisor until his well-deserved retirement.
Martin loved a good old western movie and enjoyed his time fishing the lakes and rivers in the Eastern Sierras. Martin had a love for USC football and was a die-hard Rams fan. Martin enjoyed furthering his knowledge of American History, he could be found in his recliner browsing the internet keeping up on sport stats and news around the world.
Martin is proceeding in death by his parents John and Lydia Munoz, sisters Anne Marie Griffin and Terri Munoz. He is survived by his wife Betty Munoz, daughters Kimberly (Robert) Herrera, Amanda (David) Montes and Brandi Carrillo and sons Michael (Kimberly) Munoz and Robert Molina. Grandchildren Kyara, Robert, Nathan, Cristian, Julissa, David, Jacob, Jasmine, Aryanne, Cruz, Taylor, and Faith. Great grandchildren Jocelyn, Paisley, and Addison. Brothers John and Peter Munoz and sisters Martha Vargas and Kathy Meza and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Martin will be held on September 25th at 11am at the Bardsdale Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Veteran group.
Martin’s smile will be missed by all that knew him.
