David Roger Morales (October 1951 – November 2024)

David Roger Morales was born on October 26, 1951, in Ventura, California. Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dolores “Sookie” Morales, Maria Rosa Morales and Adopted Brother, Jesus “Chuy” Carrera. Our Beloved Brother/Tio/Nino passed away on November 14, 2024, peacefully at home. David was the first-born of the family, an honor he held in high regards and a Brother’s Keeper to his brothers, Jack, and Raymond Morales.

His success of life was numerous, including a proud member of his Catholic Faith. He was an Altar Server in his youth and teenage years (assisting several Parish Priests at St. Francis of Assisi Church – Fillmore), he was also part of the St. Francis of Assisi Choir. He was a Religion Education Instructor and Youth Minister at St. Lucy’s Church and School in Long Beach, Ca. He was a participant of Damascus Group 1980 and attended both St. John’s Seminary and Moorpark College.
David was a proud graduate of Fillmore High School, Class of 1970. As his shout out would indicate “Class of 70 Rules”. He was always committed to his classmates as a hub of contact, especially as an alumnus in helping to organize his class reunions.

Brother David had various employments throughout his career; Fillmore Unified School District, Port Hueneme Base – Transporting Import Vehicles to Ground Sites, mainly at Procter & Gamble in Oxnard. Lastly and most passionately; “Que It Up,” catering for various private groups, family functions and local organizations.

Another passion was in his Coaching abilities to many both Boys and Girls in Fillmore and Piru. His Coaching included: Football and voluntary staff member for Filmore Boy’s Club, Youth Basketball on Saturday’s, Senior League Baseball, Little League Baseball, Bobby Sox Softball, Fillmore High School Football, and Filmore High School Softball.

His ability and accountability to umpire countless times for several years was witnessed by so many who followed Little League, Senior League, Bobby Sox Softball, and an occasional game of High School Baseball. To this day, he is k now as “Dutch” to his umpire colleagues and District 63.
In the Era and years of Mobile DJ’s, brother David and his sidekick Juan Carrillo, established JAMS Productions. They spun numerous LP’s and 45’s to the satisfaction of those who had the pleasure of dancing into the wee hours of the evening. Never known to step aside from a microphone, he delighted his guests by mentioning their names in his recognition to them.

A self-taught Conga and Bongo player, brother David help establish “Tempting Soul,” a band comprised of local musicians in 1975. Where to this day, the band is still performing to many band followers’ “roadies.”

It could be said that one of brother David’s treasured life memories was living in Lenk, Switzerland for 2.5 months in the Summer of 1973 with his classmate, Santiago Jimmy Rangel, under a Student Travel and Work Program called Jobs Europe.

Last and certainly not least, brother David’s love as a Knight of Columbus was immeasurable. He was one of the charting members for the Fillmore Council 8800 in the 1980’s. Unfortunately, the council disbanded, he then became a member of the Knights of Colombus Counsil 750. Where he patiently worked through the different council officer ships before given the honor of becoming the council’s Grand Knight in 2018-2019. He became a fourth degree Knight after his tenure ship as Grand Knight and past Grand knight.

Brother David had the likes and desire to nickname many, whether you were family, friend, or a student athlete. But fittingly to his craft of nicknaming, he had a slew of nicknames himself- “Smokey,” “Mer,” “Coach,” “Primo,” “Dutch,” and “Mucho.”

Our beloved Brother/Tio/Nino is survived by Sister, Ana Maria Vega (Tony), Brothers; Jack, and Raymond (Juanita). Four nieces, Six nephews, Sixteen Great nieces and nephews and Two Great-Great nephews.

Our family extends our Heartfelt prayers, blessings, support and Thank You’s to: The Trout Slayers for acknowledging brother David in their banner, The Raider Nation (especially the “Las Vegas Boys”), Del Angel Mortuary (Brenda), his Physicians, to both Knights of Columbus Councils- Oxnard 750 and Fillmore 8800, especially, Deacon Ramon Rodrigues (St. Francis of Assisi) for bringing the Holy Eucharist every Sunday. Lastly, our Neighbors, countless Family and Friends, both near and far in all their spiritual support. “He touched so many Hearts.”
