Edward Paul Simon passed away September 2, 2009, after a lengthy illness at the age of 56. Edward will be deeply missed by his wife of 30 years, Mercedes Simon; his five children, Lindsay Woods (husband, Adam), Erika Simon, Alexandra Simon, Warner Simon and Grace Simon; his grandchildren, Tyler Woods, and Ava Woods; sisters, Vivian Simon and Anita Simonson; and brother, Mark Simon. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Warner H. Simon and Ruth Simon; and brother, Donald Simon.
Edward was born February 27, 1953 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Early in life, his family moved to California and settled in Canoga Park. Later, while attending Humboldt State University, Edward studied acting and developed a passion for the stage. His acting experience enhanced his ability to tell vivid and animated stories for his friends and family. Edward later began his career in the metal industry while working for his parents at their well-established company, U.S.Welding. In 1991, shortly after moving to Fillmore, he started his own successful business, Simon Metals Company. His passion for the outdoors inspired him to create a line of his own camping equipment, which became his second business venture, Titan Mountain Sports.
As an avid cyclist, he enjoyed exploring the mountains for hours at a time on his bicycle. Edward’s longest ride began in Fillmore and ended in Reno, NV (even riding as it snowed). He shared his love of nature with his family, taking them hiking and camping at national parks all throughout the West Coast. At home, he would make sure that everyone started the day with a hearty breakfast and their daily horoscope. Family was the most important thing to him, and the lasting memories of his love and enthusiasm for life will be cherished in the hearts of his family.
A celebration of his life will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen St, Chatsworth, Ca., at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009. Arrangements are under the direction of Crawford Mortuary, (818) 349-9701.
