Eleanor was born in Fillmore and remained a lifelong resident. As a teen, she played sports for Fillmore High School. She also took flying lessons that were offered at the end of WWII by the school.
She married Albert G. Vargas in 1947. Together they raised seven children. She and Albert loved vacationing in Yosemite, the Eastern Sierra’s and Lake Tahoe with their children and grandchildren.
Eleanor worked at Olga as a seamstress. She also worked for Carter West, PPG, Northrop, the County of Ventura and various other places of employment.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Albert, daughters Sylvia (Jess) Lopez, Connie (Miguel) Sierra, son in law Patrick Casas granddaughter Tanika Guzman (Rene), grandson Tony V. Lopez, parents James and Lou Riesgo, siblings Viola Garnica, James Riesgo and Frank Riesgo.
She is survived by daughters Mary Ann (Pat) Parrish, Patty (Tony) Lopez, Celia (Alfred) Chaveste, Sandra Casas and Albert Vargas, 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren.
Rosary recitation at 10 am and Funeral Mass at 10:30 am on December 6, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi in Fillmore. Burial to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery.
