FILLMORE HIGH SCHOOL

PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: August 18, 1775 - Paul Revere rode from Charlestown to Lexington to warn Massachusetts colonists of the arrival of British troops during the American Revolution.

ATHLETICS:
1. GIRL’S VOLLEYBALL: IMPORTANT meeting on Mon. Aug. 18th, at 3:15, in the gym. During the first week of school hand-in your medical forms to the Student Store and you may also pick-up a “Student Handbook” for parents and athletes to sign and return. TRYOUTS and conditioning will take place each day from 3:15-5:15, for ALL girls interested in volleyball. If you have any questions you may call or stop by Sespe School to talk to Ms. Gonzales (524-6161).
2. Girls Soccer – if you are interested in being on the soccer, meet in front of the JV baseball field TODAY at 3:30.

CLUBS:
1. Art Club officers meeting on Tuesday in Room 34 at lunch.
2. Any high school students interested in participating with the Interact Club to be part of the high school team for the upcoming American Cancer Society Relay For Life on Sept. 13, meet in the health office at lunch.
3. Mentor Program: First lunch meeting Monday, Aug. 18th, Rm 49. All returning Mentors/Bigs and new students who would like to be a Mentor are invited to join us. Meeting starts at 12:25 -please be on time.
4. Concert Band - those students who wanted to be in Concert Band but had a scheduling conflict, see Ms. Fernandez in room 19 immediately.
5. Bicycle Club: Join FHS Cycling Club. First meeting Tue. Aug.19 in Rm 46. We start with small rides, increase miles & ride in the LA Marathon 22 miles in March. Cyclist must have a bike w/ gears and wear a helmet on the rides.

JUNIORS & SENIORS:
1. Juniors & Seniors who are employed – earn 10 credits. “NO HOMEWORK”. Sign up for Diversified Occupations – Work Experience class. Attend class 1 day per week on Tuesday. You can attend the 12:30 – 3:00 class or the 3:00 – 5:30 class. See your counselor for details.

FRESHMEN:
1. Any freshmen interested in ASB, please speak to Lynn in the Student Store. There are 3 spots available.

STUDENTS:
1. ID’S - Students that took their ID Pictures on the first day of school can pick up their ID card at the Student Store. Students still in need of ID’s - Lynn should be receiving her new ID Equipment early next week. Sorry for the inconvenience.
2. ASB STICKER & YEAR BOOKS – Unfortunately we are not longer able to honor the “Registration Special”. ASB Stickers will be sold for $25.00 and Yearbooks will be sold for $80.00.
3. LOST & FOUND - Believe it or not it is only the third day of school and Lynn has already accumulated many “Found” items in the Student Store. If you have lost of misplaced a sweatshirt or jacket, please stop by Lynn’s Office.
4. BOOKCOVERS - Just a reminder that Book Covers are sold in the Student Store for $1.00.
5. The English department decided no AR books are to be checked out until classes have taken the STAR reading test. Please do not try to check out AR books until your English teacher gives you the go-ahead.
6. The library will remain closed during lunch through next Friday, Aug, 22nd. We are open before school at 7:30 (the lines are long!) and after school until 4pm. If you are in a class that already has textbooks, please check with your teacher to see if he she has any copies he or she can check out to you from class before you spend an hour in the library line!
7. DIVO better known as Work Experience meetings will start Tuesday. The first class for students enrolled 5th & 6th periods start are from 12:30 until 3:00. The second class for student enrolled for 6th & 7th and 7th & 8th are from 3:00 to 5:30. You will only have Tuesdays for meetings. Mrs. Spencer will be on campus on Monday if you want to ask her any questions.
8. Our Back to School Rally is Friday! Show you class spirit by wearing your class color. Seniors – Black; Juniors – White; Sophomores – Blue; Freshmen – Green.
9. Students: It is very important that you understand that you cannot have any kind of knife, a real or pretend gun, paint ball guns, or any other kind of weapon at school. You cannot make any kind of a threat to a student or staff member. You also cannot have or be under the influence of any drug or have drug paraphernalia at school. Your school and our school board have ZERO tolerance for these things. Students have been expelled for having these items at school. No excuse for not knowing that these things are not allowed at school will be accepted. Take this seriously and help keep your school safe for you and everyone. These rules apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including when school is not in session. Thank you. ……...John Wilber, Principal…..

STAFF:
1. Teachers: I’m compiling a preliminary book-order list since I learned about a bunch of great books over the summer. If you have any titles in mind that we currently do not carry (and are in fact AR titles) please let me know. There will be other opportunities during the year as well though so feel free to start a running list as well. Thanks D. Hoffman
