PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: February 17, 1801 - The electoral tie between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr was broken by the House of
Representatives who elected Jefferson president.
LUNCH: Stuffed baked potato, rice/broccoli, fresh fruit.
ATHLETICS:
1. Boys Golf – practice will start on Tuesday, 2/22 at 3:45 at Elkins. Coach Dollar must have the “BLUE” clearance sheet before you can
practice!
2. FOOTBALL PLAYERS - If you ordered Football DVD’s they are available for pick-up in the Student Store.
3. SPRING ATHLETES - Spring Practices have started……Make sure you get your Athletic Clearances to Lynn in the Student Store.
CLUBS:
1. Flashes Go Green & Interact Clubs – important meeting at lunch on Thursday in Mr. Richter’s room
2. Anime Club - meet FRIDAY in the Art room at lunch.
SENIORS:
1. Senior Girls – If you are interested in playing PowderPuff football, please attend a MANDATORY meeting TODAY in Ms. Schief’s room #65.
2. TRIO – ETS SENIOR STUDENTS - take part of a Financial Aid Workshop FREE OF CHARGE. There will be two Cal State Channel Islands
Financial Aid Counselors who will be facilitating the workshop in partnership with the TRiO - ETS Program for you to attend. The FAFSA
Workshop is taking place on Wednesday February 23rd, at Fillmore High School, inside the school's Library from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

• FILLMORE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION – applications are in the College and Career Center. They are to be returned to the alumni office by
3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25th.
• Soroptimist International of Fillmore, Imogene Vest Scholarship - students who have a 3.0 GPA or higher, able to demonstrate you are
actively working to make your community a better place, and attending a higher education institution in the fall of 2011 immediately following
graduation. Deadline is March 22nd. See Mrs. Larin for an application.
• Rotary Club of Fillmore Sun Risers - seniors who reside within Fillmore Unified School District. Deadline is April 1st. See Mrs. Larin for
an application.
• California Strawberry Commission - children of strawberry farm workers. Student must be planning to enroll as a full time student at a two or four year
college, university, or an accredited trade school. The scholarship amount is based on Merit. http://www.californiastrawberries.com/. Deadline is March
1st.
• SEG Foundation - students who intend to pursue a college curriculum directed toward a career in applied geophysics or a closely field, such as
geosciences, physics, geology, or earth and environmental sciences. http://www.seg.org/web/foundation/programs/scholarship. Deadline is March 1st.
• Maureen L. and Howard N. Blitman, P.E., Scholarship - African-American, Hispanic, or Native American students who are interested in engineering, and
has been accepted into an ABET-accredited engineering program at a four year college or university. Students must be U.S. citizens to apply.

JUNIORS:
1. Class meeting TODAY at lunch in Rm. 4 to discuss Powder Puff shirts (size and price)
2. Do you need help preparing for SAT’s? Come by and pre-register in the College and Career Center if you are interested. Free SAT prep
workshops will be held in room 49 on the following days: 2/22/11 – Verbal; 2/23/11 – Math; 2/24/11 - Writing
STUDENTS:
1. Get your stories and poems together and enter the Soroptimist Writing Contest. 1st place receives $50, 2nd place $35, and 3rd place
$25. Please submit all writing entries to Mr. Bauer, Rm. 32, no later than Friday, Feb. 18. There will also be an awards dinner for the
winners. Good luck and good writing!
2. GIRLS: Applications are available for the Miss Fillmore/ Miss Teen Fillmore Pageant. Applications are available in the Student Store. The
Mother/Daughter Tea is scheduled for Wednesday, February 23rd 6:30PM at the Memorial Building. The first practice begins Wednesday,
March 2nd.
3. This years’ Ventura County Fair Poster contest theme is “The Bounty of the County”. Entries must be original 2-D works of art on 14” x
17” paper. There is a $10 entry fee. All valid entries will receive a Ventura County Fair participation ribbon and 2 admission tickets to the
2011 VC fair. Awards- 1st place $500, 2nd place $250 3rd place $100. The deadline is Thursday March 31st. For an entry form or more
information come by room 34 (Art room)
4. Higher Ed Week II is coming to Fillmore High School on the evening of Tuesday, March 1st, in the high school gym. Speak with college
representatives from UC’s, CSU’s, Private Universities, Community Colleges, and trade schools. Bring the family! Win an IPOD!
5. Don’t forget that we have LATE START on Friday. TARDY BELL rings at 8:35. You need to be IN YOUR SEAT by the time the tardy bell
rings.
STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. The Sophomore class is having a portrait fundraiser in cooperation with KSSP on Feb. 26th. If you are interested in having a family portrait
taken, pick up a flyer in the Student Store or any Sophomore class officer. This is a great opportunity for a family portrait!
Lanyard & Heart Ring Game
• The WINNERS ARE – 3rd Place – Marco Cardenas; 2ND Place – Marisa Yeaton & 1st PLACE – Lili Becerra. Your prizes will
be delivered to you on Friday or Tuesday. All the participants can pick up their “hearts” from Barbara if you want them back.
