PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: May 1, 1931- The Empire State Building opened in New York City. At 102 stories, it would be the world's tallest
building for the next 41 years.

1. ATTENTION UC AMBASSADORS! Your fundraising money is due IMMEDIATELY to Ms. Moriarty in Room 61. Do not delay in turning in your
forms and checks!! Thank you, Mrs. Palacio and Ms. Moriarty
2. Mentor Program: Big's Appreciation on May 6th -permission slips are due. First 50 Big's.
3. Mentor Program: Big's interested in volunteering to work at the Lyon's Club, May Festival BINGO booth -sign up in Rm. 17 ASAP. Festival
runs from May 14-17th.
4. Mentors – Piru Students that signed up to go to the Dodger game this Saturday, please stop by Rm. 17 either at break or after school TODAY.
5. Mentor Program: Only 3 spots are left for any Sr. who needs tutoring in math. Sign up in Rm. 17. Tutoring will be at the One Step on M, W &
Friday from 3:30-5pm.
6. ONE STEP: Monday, May 4th: Stone Etching art - 3:30. The Artivists class starts its new session on sailing – 3:30. There will also be Math
Tutoring. Its not too late to join any of these classes! BEGINNING WED the 6th Yoga at 5:15-6:15. Please sign up at the One step or in Room

SENIORS:
1. A Moorpark College representative will be in the College and Career Center on Monday, May 4th during lunch to speak to students who are
attending Moorpark during the summer or fall semester.
SCHOLARSHIPS: A list of ALL scholarships is available in the COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
1. The Fillmore Lions -deadline is May 1st. See Mrs. Larin for an application.
2. California Women for Agriculture Ventura County Chapter - scholarship to both female and male students who are planning to pursue a
B.A., A.A. or a degree from an accredited trade school in agriculture or related subject area. Students must also be a one year member, in
good standing with FFA, A-H or Grange OR have a parent/guardian employed in Ventura County agriculture for the past two years. Deadline
is May 25th.
3. Motion Picture Industry Joint Apprenticeship Committee will be accepting applications for apprenticeships in the occupation of Heating,
Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic from May 11th through May 15th.
4. Rosetta Stone Scholarship Contest is available to students who have learned English as a second language. Students must also be
planning to attend an accredited college or accredited trade school and be U.S citizens, legal residents or have official work or student visas.
You must write an essay in which you address the following question: “How learning English as a second language impacted your life”. See
Mrs. Larin or go online to www.rosettastone.com/scholarship.
9th-11th grade students:
1. If you are planning to take Ventura College classes during the summer or fall semester, a counselor from Ventura College will be in the College
and Career Center on May, 5th and 12th during lunch to register you. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready!
STUDENTS:
1. May 5th is the registration deadline for the June 6th SAT reasoning and subject tests. You can register on-line at www.collegeboard.com. See
your counselor for more information.
2. PROM TICKETS –Couple tickets are $80 and singles are $45. The Jr./Sr. Prom will be SATURDAY, MAY 9TH at the Ventura Theatre from
8PM-12PM.. Tickets will be on-sale in the Student Store all week after school. Buy your tickets now, because the price will increase next
week.
3. You may not attend Prom if you have outstanding Saturday School assignments or detentions. See your Assistant Principal for more
information.
4. Sadie Hawkins pictures and softball pictures are in and can be picked up at KSSP Photographic Studios (330 Central Ave.).
5. Advanced Art students turn your sketchbooks in to Ms. M by Friday. Drop them off before or after school.
6. Mrs. Byrne’s Geometry students can pick up their extra credit before or after testing or during break in room 52. It is due on Monday May 4th.
7. Volunteers needed for the Chalk Art Festival at Mountain Vista School. It will be Tuesday, May 5th from 5:00 until 6:30. If you are interested in
participating see Ms. M in Room 34 (art room) by Monday May 4th to sign up.
8. ASB Members – The Grad Nite Live Donation Cans are due on May 15th.
STAR TEST DAYS Tuesday, April 28 – Friday, May 1 – Minimum Days – School dismissed at 12:10. ALL students need to report at 7:55.
The busses will pick up at 12:45 on Tuesday – Friday.
