PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: October 3, 1863 - President Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day.

ATHLETICS:
1. FOOTBALL - AWAY @ Carpinteria. JV game begins at 4:30PM and Varsity at 7:30PM. JV TEAM ONLY is excused from class at 1:45PM to depart FHS at 2PM. Varsity bus will depart FHS at 4:30PM. Make It 5-0 FLASHES!!
2. Girls Soccer – Any girl interested in playing on any level of the Girls’ soccer team must attend the MANDATORY meeting on Monday, Oct. 6th for uniform sizing. The meeting will be held at 3:30 at the JV baseball field.

CLUBS:
1. Mentor Program: Cal Arts & Magic permission slips due by Oct. 10th. Turn in $ with permission slip Rm 10.
2. POETRY CLUB – meets every Friday at lunch in Mr. Overton’s room (drama room). Pleases come and bring poetry/lyrics you have written or enjoyed.
3. HIKING CLUB/AVID CLUB – Car Was on Saturday 10/4 at Super A from 8 am – 1 pm. Club members meet in Rm. 59 @lunch TODAY to discuss details.

SENIORS:
1. Senior Ball tickets will be on sell starting Monday in the Student Store during lunch. $40 a couple and $20 single. Senior Ball will be held on Oct. 25th and the theme is “All that Jazz”

JUNIORS & SOPHOMORES:
1. The PSAT Tickets are now for sale in the Student Store. They cost $13.00. The test will be on Saturday, October 18th at 8:30 in Room 49.

STUDENTS:
1. Students tardy at the gate – if you are tardy on Friday and have your cell phone taken away, you will not get it back until Monday! Don’t be late anymore!!!!
2. ID CARDS ARE HERE – If you had your ID picture taken on Picture Make-up day, you can pick it up in the Student Store.
3. The National Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting a Performing & Visual Arts College Fair this Saturday, October 4th at UCLA from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. For complete details, see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center during break or lunch.
4. One Step Teen Wellness Drop in Center is now open. Located at 600 Saratoga St. (2nd and Saratoga) We offer yoga classes, nutrition classes, computers, and homework help. Come and join us!! We're open 3-7 pm Monday-Thursday.
5. ATTENTION YOUNG LADIES BETWEEN THE AGES OF 13 –25. THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVERS ASPIRING ACTRESSES AND MODELS. THE MISS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA USA & Miss SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA USA Teen Pageants WILL BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 30, 2008. THIS IS FOR YOUNG WOMEN THAT WOULD LIKE TO EARN SCHOLARSHIP DOLLARS UP TO $500.00 OR THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A STATE PAGEANT. THE OPENING NIGHT FOR ALL YOUNG LADIES RANGING FROM AGES 13-25 WILL BE AT BREKKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, OCTOBER 9, 2008, AT 6:30 P.M. THE ADDRESS IS: 1400 MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DR. OXNARD, CA. APPLICATIONS WILL BE IN THE STUDENT STORE.

STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. Next Wednesday, October 8th will be WALK TO WORK/SCHOOL DAY. The district is asking all staff and students that live close by to walk to work.
2. Next week is QUARTER FINALS –
Tues., Oct. 7 – English & Foreign Language;
Wed., Oct. 8 – Science and Math;
(Wednesday, Oct. 8th WILL NOT be a Collaborative Day, school starts at 7:55)
Thurs., Oct. 9th – All others.
Monday – Thursday will be REGULAR SCHEDULE
Friday, Oct. 10th will be a MINIMUM DAY (all 6 periods).
