PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: September 12, 1609 - Henry Hudson began his exploration of the Hudson River.
ATHLETICS:
1. FOOTBALL - HOME w/Village Christian. JV game begins at 4:30PM and Varsity at 7:30PM. JV TEAM ONLY is excused from class at 2:30PM and are to report directly to the football locker room.
2. CROSS COUNTRY - AWAY @ Seaside Invitational. Meet begins at 2PM. Cross Country Team is excused from class at 11:45PM, bus will depart FHS at 12:00PM.
3. ATHLETES: Remember you are not allowed to participate in any FALL SPORT until you have been CLEARED and your PARTICIPATION FEES have been paid.

CLUBS:
1. ART CLUB is having a Car Wash this Saturday from 9 – 2 in the Super A Parking lot. Cars - $7.00 and SUV’s/Trucks - $10. Please come and support the Art Club. Contact President Miguel Alonso or Vice-President Tanya Arana, or any other Art Club member for tickets.

SENIORS:
o The Dreamers Challenge Scholarship is available to all senior students. Students must create an essay, video, or artwork, describing how their dream will leave a lasting mark on the state, nation, and the world. Deadline is October 10th. For complete details see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center during break or lunch, or go to www.californiamuseum.org/Exhibits/Hall-of-Fame/essay-contest-rules.htm.
o Wendy’s High School Heisman offers a scholarship to male and female student athletes who exhibit excellence in the classroom, on the playing field, and within their communities. Students must also have at least a “B” average and participate in at least one of the 32 sports. Application must be submitted in September to allow time for review. o Exploring College Options: Joint information programs with Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Stanford, and the University of Pennsylvania. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., representatives from each university will give a brief audio-visual presentation and provide introductory brochures for prospective students. Following the presentations, the representatives will answer questions about the application process and financial aid. At around 9:00 p.m., they will answer school-specific questions. JUNIORS:
1. Attention all Juniors: You must try to sign up to sell glow sticks during football games. Don’t forget that you need as many points as possible! Sign up in the Student Store as soon as possible.

STUDENTS:
1. Mentor Program: Training today after school 3:15pm-5:15pm Rm 49. Please be on time!
2. Mentor Program: Mentors that have signed up for the Griffith Observatory field trip need to return their permission slip to Rm. 10 by Sep. 19.
3. September 19th is the registration deadline for the October 25th ACT test. You can register on-line at www.actstudent.org. See your counselor for more information.
4. Earn Community Service Hours – help set up for the Relay for Life this Friday from 3:15-5:00 at the baseball field.
5. ANY MIGRANT STUDENT WHO IS INTERESTED IN RECOVERING CREDITS THROUGH THE P.A.S.S. PROGRAM, PLEASE SEE YOUR COUNSELOR OR MRS. IBARRA IN THE OFFICE. CLASS WILL BE SATURDAY'S FROM 9A-1P IN MR. ANDERSEN'S RM. 62.
6. Tickets for the Homecoming Dance will go on sale Sept. 17th! Be the first one in line! The dance will be on Saturday, Sept. 27th from 7 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. This year it will be semi-formal, so get dress up! Tickets wil be $3.00 with an ASB sticker or $5.00 without.
7. AFTERSCHOOL HOMEWORK CENTERS AVAILABLE AT: MT. VISTA SCHOOL, BUILDING C; RANCHO SESPE, CESAR CHAVEZ MEMORIAL HALL; PIRU, COLINA VISTA APARTMENTS ACTIVITY HALL. COMPUTERS AND INTERNET ARE AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS.
8. Grad Nite Live is going to sell pretzels at the football game this Friday.
9. PE CLOTHES: The Student Store has received their new shipment of PE Clothes. PE Shirts = $8.00 PE Shorts = $10.00.
10. STUDENT STORE: The Student Store will be CLOSED on Monday, September 15th.
11. Class t-shirts are now on sale in the Student Store. All shirts will be $12.00.
12. Night School will be starting Monday. This is for credit recovery only. If you want to enroll in Night School, please see your counselor.
13. LOST & FOUND: A Purse was “turned-into” the snack bar Friday Night during the football game. If it is yours, and you can describe it, please see Lynn in the Student Store.
