1. Prayer Club – meeting TODAY at lunch for the last meeting of 2008. All students are welcome to join us.
2. MESA is back! Come to our first meeting of the year on Tues., Dec. 16th at 12:30 in Rm. 22 (Mr. Waddell). Projects & fun! All are welcome!
SENIORS:
1. If you are requiring transcripts for scholarships, please see Mrs. Curnett as soon as possible. She will be out of the office January 12th through the 16th. Do not wait until the last minute!
Scholarships:
• The Elks National Foundation is offering the “Most Valuable Student Scholarship” to students who are U.S. citizens, involved in extra curricular activities, and demonstrate both academic excellence as well as community service. For complete details see Mrs. Larin or go to www.elks.org/enf/scholars Deadline is January 9.
• The California-Hawaii Elks Association is offering a scholarship to students who plan to pursue a qualified vocational/technical course. All applicants must be citizens of the U.S. For complete details see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center. Deadline is Dec.9th.
• The Gate Millennium Scholars Program is offering a scholarship to African American, American Indian /Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American Students who are citizens or legal residents, have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, and extracurricular. Students must also be enrolling at an accredited college or university as a full time student and demonstrate financial need. Scholarship applications must be submitted online by January 12, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. EST or the paper application postmarked on or before January 12, 2009. STUDENTS:
1. STUDENTS TAKING PASS CLASSES AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL - THE LAST SATURDAY CLASS WILL BE SATURDAY DEC. 20th. The next PASS class will begin on January 10th.
2. ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION – Monday at 3:15. Tuesday, Thursday & Friday at 12:15 in Rm. 49
3. Come audition for FHS’s next big show, “Trouble in Dustville”. Lots of parts available for this melodrama, so come to the drama room on Dec. 18 & 19 from 1-3 p.m. No experience? No Problem? We need LOTS of people. Questions? See Mr. Overton.
4. Freshmen, Sophomores & Juniors – class t-shirts are on sale now for $12. All orders must be turned in by Dec. 19th. Show your class spirit and buy one!
5. BAND STUDENTS - The jams you ordered will be here after school, on Wed., Dec. 17. All band students pick up your jams for delivery.
6. December 26th is the registration deadline for the January 24th SAT reasoning and subject tests. You can register on-line at www.collegeboard.com. See your counselor for more information.
7. January 6th is the registration deadline for the February 7th ACT tests. You can register on-line at www.act.org. See your counselor for more information.
JUNIORS:
1. The Discover Scholarship is available to students who have a 2.75 GPA or better, plan to continue their education after high school, demonstrate accomplishments in community service and faced a significant roadblock or challenge. Students must also be U.S. citizens or legal residents. You must apply online. For complete details, go to www.discoverfinancial.com/community or see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center. Deadline is January 31st.
STUDENTS & PARENTS:
1. The district office has asked us to remind you that we only have a 2 week break during the Winter Holiday. Please remind your parents that we expect you all to stay in school until the final day – December 19th. Thank you. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT NOT ONLY ARE YOU EXPECTED TO STAY UNTIL DEC. 19th, BUT IF YOU LEAVE BEFORE THAT DATE YOU RISK LOSING ALL OF YOUR CREDITS & FAILING ALL OF YOUR CLASSES!
