PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: January 12, 1915 - The U.S. House of Representatives rejected a proposal to give women the right to vote.

ATHLETICS:
1. Football Banquet Potluck Dinner – Monday, January 12th at 6:00 in the Cafeteria. If your last name begins with A-L: Bring Main Dish AND Salad/Side Dish. If you last name begins with M-Z: Bring Main Dish AND Dessert
2. FROSH GIRLS SOCCER - HOME w/ NEWBURY PARK. Game time 3PM. FROSH. GIRLS ONLY are excused from class at 1:50PM.
3. BOYS SOCCER - HOME w/ BISHOP DIEGO. JV Game begins at 5:30PM, Varsity at 6PM.
4. VARSITY / JV FOOTBALL / CROSS COUNTY / PEP SQUAD - Your Individual and Team Photos are ready for distribution at KSSP Photography. Please personally pick them up at their studio.

CLUBS:
1. Art Club meeting on Tuesday at lunch in Room 34. New members welcome.
2. Hiking Club: meeting Thursday, Jan. 15 to plan our trip to the rock climbing gym in Ventura. Hope to see you there.
3. Mentor Program: Lunch meeting today Rm. 49 -Please be on time.
4. Mentor Program: Sespe mentoring today after school.

SENIORS:
1. Josten’s will be here on Friday during break only for late orders for cap and gowns/ announcements. Bring your money and paperwork.
2. Need help with the VCCF? Stop by the College and Career Center! Mrs. Larin is available during break and lunch to assist you.
Scholarships: See Mrs. Larin in the College & Career Center for details.
• Ventura County Community Foundation Scholarship can be picked up from Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center. Do not wait until the last minute to apply! Make sure to follow all instructions or you can be disqualified. Deadline is Jan 16th.
• Dell Scholarship -You must apply online at http://www.dellscholars.org/. Deadline is Jan. 15th.
• Gate Millennium Scholars Program Scholarship - submitted online by January 12, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. EST or the paper application postmarked on or before January 12, 2009. www.gmsp.org.
• The APIASF Scholarship - see Mrs. Larin or go to http://www.apiasf.org/scholarship_app/. Deadline is Jan 19th.
Math teachers are available to help ANY student. You don’t have to be in that teacher’s class to get help!

STUDENTS:
1. ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION – Every Tuesday & Thursday from 3:15-4:15 in Rm. 49
2. The library is open every Wednesday morning for study hall from 7:30 - 9:00 am. Staff will be in the library to assist with homework, research, etc. Please take advantage of this opportunity.
3. One Step - Monday there will be a cooking class with Rudy from 3:30 to 4:30. From 4:30 – 5:30, Ian Williams will be leading a workshop on resumes and cover letters.
4. One Step is Hiring!! Come by the Center (make a left at the library to the chocolate church) or Rm. 10 and pick up an application fill it out and return it to Hilary (In rm. 10) or Eron Chavez by Monday the 12th must be ages 15 -19. Were looking for two people who are energetic and outgoing to help us expand our services! If you are a high school senior you must not be leaving the county for college.
5. Get your Winter Formal tickets early and save some money…This year’s theme is Candy Land…Tickets sold at lunch in the Student Store for $60.00 a couple and $35.00 single.
6. Lions Club Speech Contest - All students are invited to participate in the 72nd Annual Speaker Contest. All Fillmore finalists will receive $25, and the winner will get $50 and a chance to win $21,250 for a college scholarship. See Mr. Overton or call Mr. Edmonds at 524-4839.
7. Soroptimist Live Your Dream Art Contest – Students should draw a woman – past or present, real or fictional – who inspires them. See Ms. Mitzenmacher for info. $100 prize to winner!!!! $100 prize to winner’s school!
8. Students: Read the Fillmore High School 2008-2009 Discipline Code. Not knowing the discipline code is not an acceptable excuse. You must read and know the code. Gang Related Offenses = 1) flashing gang signs, 2) yelling gang names/slogans, 3) gang graffiti on books/notebooks or other possessions, 4) exposing gang related tattoos. First offense is a 3-day suspension & notification of parents. Second offense is a 5-day suspension & notification of proper authorities. Third offense is a 5-day suspension & notification of proper authorities and possible expulsion recommendation. Thank you. ……...John Wilber, Principal…..

STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. The Fillmore Girls Basketball program is having a fundraiser on January 25th. The Herrera Family will be performing in a concert in the Sespe Auditorium at 3:00 p.m. on that date. All funds will be donated to the Lady Flashes Basketball program. Both the varsity and JV teams are selling the tickets. The girls would appreciate your support.
