PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: May 4, 1961 - Civil rights activists, called "freedom riders," left Washington, DC for New Orleans.
Congratulations to: Jessica Leon - accepted to CSU Sonoma and Dominican University.

ATHLETICS:
1. VARSITY SOFTBALL - HOME w/Grace Brethren. Game begins at 3:30PM. Softball Players are excused from class at 2:00PM.
2. JV SOFTBALL - HOME w/Nordhoff. Game begins at 3:30PM. Softball Players are excused from class at 2:00PM.
3. JV & Varsity Football – practice TONIGHT at 6:00 p.m.
4. Swim team pictures are in and can be picked up at KSSP Photographic Studios (330 Central Ave.).
CLUBS:
1. Mentor Program: Lunch meeting today Rm. 49. Sespe mentoring today after school.
2. ONE STEP: Monday, May 4th: Stone Etching art - 3:30. The Artivists class starts its new session on sailing – 3:30. There will also be Math
Tutoring. BEGINNING WED 5/6, Yoga at 5:15-6:15. Please sign up at the One step or in Room 17
SENIORS:
1. A Moorpark College representative will be in the College and Career Center on Monday, May 4th during lunch to speak to students who are
attending Moorpark during the summer or fall semester.
SCHOLARSHIPS: A list of ALL scholarships is available in the COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
1. California Women for Agriculture Ventura County Chapter - Deadline is May 25th.
2. Motion Picture Industry Joint Apprenticeship Committee will be accepting applications for apprenticeships in the occupation of Heating,
Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic from May 11th through May 15th.
3. Rosetta Stone Scholarship Contest - You must write an essay in which you address the following question: “How learning English as a
second language impacted your life”. See Mrs. Larin or go online to www.rosettastone.com/scholarship.
9th-11th grade students:
1. If you are planning to take Ventura College classes during the summer or fall semester, a counselor from Ventura College will be in the College
and Career Center on May, 5th and 12th during lunch to register you. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready!
STUDENTS:
1. Parking Info – because of construction at the Memorial Building part of Shiells Drive will be blocked off. Please enter and exit
the parking lot on Second Street.
2. Join the MEChA Club in celebrating Cinco de Mayo. On Monday there will be Aztec dancers and on Tuesday they will crown the Cinco de
Mayo Court at lunch and have a DJ!
3. May 5th is the registration deadline for the June 6th SAT reasoning and subject tests. You can register on-line at www.collegeboard.com. See
your counselor for more information.
4. PROM TICKETS –Couple tickets are $90 and singles are $50. The Jr./Sr. Prom will be SATURDAY, MAY 9TH at the Ventura Theatre from
8PM-12AM.. Tickets will be on-sale in the Student Store all week at break and lunch.
5. You may not attend Prom if you have outstanding Saturday School assignments or detentions. See your Assistant Principal for more
information.
6. Volunteers needed for the Chalk Art Festival at Mountain Vista School. It will be Tuesday, May 5th from 5:00 until 6:30. If you are interested in
participating see Ms. M in Room 34 (art room) by Monday May 4th to sign up.
7. ASB Members – The Grad Nite Live Donation Cans are due on May 15th.
8. Students: It is very important that you understand that the Fillmore Unified School District is committed to eliminating sexual harassment or
sexual battery of any student by an employee, student, or other person, from all schools and facilities within the district. Sexual harassment or
battery is improper, immoral, illegal, and will not be tolerated within the district. This policy is implemented to inform both students and
personnel as to what sexual harassment/battery is and what procedures are to be followed in dealing with sexual harassment/battery within the
district. See Fillmore High School Discipline Code. BP5145.7 First offense is warning & parent conference. Second offense is 3-day
suspension & notification of proper authorities. Third offense 5-day suspension; notification of proper authorities & expulsion recommendation.

1. Interested in sending “well wishes” to a student or faculty member. For $10.00 your greeting can be put on the Marquee and run for one (1)
week. If interested please see Lynn in the Student Store. All greetings must be approved by FHS Administration.
PARENTS:
1. OUR ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT and encourages you to join the FHS AHTLETIC BOOSTER CLUB. This group
supports athletics for all of the athletic teams featured at the High School. Without an active and support driven Booster Club we cannot
improve, introduce, or even maintain existing athletic programs offered at Fillmore High School. Please consider serving as a Booster Club
board member for the 2009/2010 term. An election to select next year’s board will be held Monday, May 11 at 6:30 P.M. at Fillmore High
School, Hall of Fame, located in the Science Building. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Lynn in the Student Store #524-8491.
