PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: February 19, 1942 - President Franklin Roosevelt signed an executive order that resulted in the internment of
thousands of Japanese-Americans living on the West Coast.

ATHLETICS:
1. GIRLS BASKETBALL - HOME vs. Santa Ynez. FIRST CIF ROUND. Game starts at 7:30PM. ASB Stickers ARE NOT honored by CIF -
EVERYONE HAS TO PAY. Ticket prices are as follows: General $8.00 / Student with School ID $5.00 / Children 13 & Younger $5.00.
2. SWIM TEAM - MANDATORY meeting on Friday, Feb. 20 in room 49 at lunchtime. ALL swim team members MUST attend.
3. SPRING ATHLETES - You much be CLEARED in order to start practice after 3PM.
4. BOYS GOLF – Mr. Dollar has cancelled practice this week. Be cleared and ready to go on Monday.
CLUBS:
1. Mecha Club – meeting TODAY in Rm. 49 at lunch. Mecha Club invites ALL students to Ballet Folklorico practice after school on Friday in Rm.
49.
2. Mentor Program: Sports Mentors today at lunch. B&G Club Mentors after school Rm 16.
3. Mentor Program: Officers meeting Friday at lunch Rm 10.
4. Montana Yellowstone Expedition: Students selected to MYE -there will be a mandatory pre-interview this Friday in Rm. 10 at lunch.
5. Prayer Club - meeting on Thursdays at lunch in Rm. 2.
6. Fashion Club – meetings Monday and Wednesday at lunch to discuss upcoming Fashion Show.
SENIORS:
1. If you ordered a transcript from Debby, please stop by to pick them up. Thanks.
2. If you have not completed your FAFSA there will be another FAFSA workshop on Thursday, February 26th at 6:45 p.m. in the library. This
will be the last workshop!

• The Fillmore Alumni Scholarship - applications must be returned to the alumni office, 549 Sespe Ave., Suite #6 no later than 3:30 p.m., Fri.,
Feb. 27th.
• Pepsi is offering the “Escribe tu Futuro” scholarship to students who are U.S citizens or legal residents, have applied to a two year college,
university, or vocational schools that lead to an associate’s degree. Students must also be involved in academic achievement, participation in
community service and/or extra curricular activities, and demonstrate financial need. http://www.lnesc.org/index.asp? Deadline is Feb 27th.
• NIH program - scholarship to students who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health related research,
have a grade point average of 3.5 GPA or be ranked within the top 5 percent of your class, be from a disadvantage background, plan to enroll

SOPHOMORES:
1. CLASS RINGS - Jostens will be here March 3rd and 4th to take ring orders at break and during lunch.
STUDENTS:
1. Soroptimist Short Story & Poetry Contest – Enter a short story or poem for a chance to win $50, $35 or $25. Entries are due to Mr. Bauer on
Monday, Feb. 23rd. See your English teacher for more information.
2. MISS FILLMORE / MISS TEEN FILLMORE PAGEANT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE Applications for the Miss Fillmore/Miss Teen Fillmore
Pageant are available. The annual Mother/Daughter Team will take place at the Memorial Building on Wednesday, February 25th beginning at
6:30PM. First official practice will begin Wednesday, March 4th. Miss Contestants must be a Junior or Senior girl in good standing. Teen
Contestants must be a girl between the ages of 13 (by January 1st) and 17 in good standing, but not a Junior or Senior. All contestants must
reside within the Fillmore Unified School District boundaries. Applications are available at Fillmore High Schools Student Store, the Fillmore
Chamber of Commerce or by contacting Pageant Director Lori McLain at #524-4432.
3. The Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM) Department at Cal Poly Pomona will be holding its annual showcase event
“Apparel News & Focus Days” on March 5th, 6th, and 7th, from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm. You must RSVP by Feb 27th. For complete
details see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center.
4. Science Night is coming to Fillmore! In celebration of National Engineering Week, Ventura College and the Society of
Hispanic Professional Engineers are hosting a fun and informative Science Night in the Fillmore Middle School gym on
Thursday, February 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. College students and professional engineers will be helping students
create mini science projects such as gliders and cars and holding competitions to see how they well they work. There will
be prizes and refreshments will be served. The event is free and parents are welcome to attend. See your math or science
teacher for a flyer with more information.
STUDENTS & STAFF: Get your tickets now! FHS Drama proudly presents: “Trouble in Dustville!” The show opens Feb. 20th with
performances on the 21st, 22nd, 27th & 28th. Get your tickets from Mr. Overton: Students - $5; Adults $7.
STAFF: CLASS RINGS - Jostens will be here on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23RD in all WORLD CULTURE Classes to provide
information to sophomores on class rings.
