PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: May 7, 1992 - The 27th Amendment to the Constitution, prohibiting mid-term Congressional pay raises, was ratified.
Congratulations to: Laura Garnica - accepted to CSU Chico, Fresno, Bakersfield and San Marcos.
LUNCH: Baked potato bar, diced ham/cheese, salad/dressing
ATHLETICS:
1. SOFTBALL – HOME w/ Santa Clara. VARSITY ONLY. Game begins at 3:30PM. Varsity Team Only is excused from class at 2:00PM.
2. BOYS GOLF - AWAY @ Oaks Christian. Meet begins at 1:30PM. Golfers are excused from class at 11:30, depart at 11:35.
3. TRACK – AWAY @ Carpinteria for TVL Finals. Meet starts at 3:00PM. Track members are excused from class at 12:30PM, bus will depart
FHS at 12:45PM.
4. ATHLETES / PEP SQUAD: PHYSICALS - Dr. Bautista will be offerering FREE PHYSICLAS for Athletes and Pep Squad Members that are
in need to participate in summer practice. This is also a good time for Athletes participating in any Fall Sport, (Football, Cross Country, Girls
Volleyball & Girls Golf). Physicals will be given WEDNESDAY, MAY 20TH beginning at 3:30PM.
5. Swim team pictures are in and can be picked up at KSSP Photographic Studios (330 Central Ave.).
CLUBS:
1. Flashes Go Green Club – meeting Thursday at lunch in Rm. 23.
2. Prayer Club – meets Thursday at lunch in Rm. 2.
3. Poetry Club – meeting Friday in the Drama room. Come and check out the poets of Fillmore High School! New members always welcome!
4. S Club – meeting Friday at lunch in Rm. 45. Bring your t-shirt design ideas. We will be making a gift for Mothers’ Day. New members
welcome!
5. Mentor Program: Congratulations to the following students who received a Mentor of the Year Award from Big Brothers & Big Sisters of
Ventura County; Christina Bahena, Michael Cervantes, Christina Gutierrez, Veronica Lomeli, Steven Magana, Jose Rangel, Carlos Razo, Jesse
Rivera, Daniela Rosales, Juan Villalobos & Deanna Villgomez.
6. Mentor Program: Bingo Training on Friday May 8th or Mon. May 11th. First trained get first choice on fair days. Training in Rm 17. You Must
Be A Mentor/Big.
SENIORS:
SCHOLARSHIPS: A list of ALL scholarships is available in the COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
1. California Women for Agriculture Ventura County Chapter - Deadline is May 25th.
2. Motion Picture Industry Joint Apprenticeship Committee will be accepting applications for apprenticeships in the occupation of Heating,
Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic from May 11th through May 15th.
3. Rosetta Stone Scholarship Contest - You must write an essay in which you address the following question: “How learning English as a
second language impacted your life”. See Mrs. Larin or go online to www.rosettastone.com/scholarship.
JUNIORS
1. If you are interested in applying to a military academy, contact Mr. Arguelles.
9th-11th grade students:
1. If you are planning to take Ventura College classes during the summer or fall semester, a counselor from Ventura College will be in the College
and Career Center on May 12th during lunch to register you. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready!
STUDENTS:
1. PROM TICKETS –Couple tickets are $90 and singles are $50. The Jr./Sr. Prom will be SATURDAY, MAY 9TH at the Ventura Theatre from
8PM-12AM.. Tickets will be on-sale in the Student Store all week at break and lunch.
2. You may not attend Prom if you have outstanding Saturday School assignments or detentions. See your Assistant Principal for more
information.
3. The following students need to provide an Picture ID of their date BEFORE their Guest Passes
will be approved. See Lynn in the Student Store TODAY: Lourdes Luna, Jazzmin Galvez,
Patricia Zavala, Gladys Bravo, Kim Ruiz, Jonathan Magana, Tate Suttle, Mariah Rivas, Jaymee
Harter, Erica Rodriguez, Eric Carranza.
4. ASB Members – The Grad Nite Live Donation Cans are due on May 15th.
5. FFA is sponsoring a blood drive on Thurs. May 14th . If you are 16 years of age and older you may donate. Pick up parent permission slip in
the health office and return to Janice by Friday May 8th
STUDENTS/FACULTY/PARENTS:
1. BASEBALL T-SHIRTS are available in the Student Store. Cost is $12.00.
2. FLASHES BASEBALL HATS are available in the Student Store. Cost is $20.00 Sizes vary and are limited.
3. Interested in sending “well wishes” to a student or faculty member. For $10.00 your greeting can be put on the Marquee and ran for one (1)
week. If interested please see Lynn in the Student Store. All greetings must be approved by FHS Administration.
