PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: October 9, 1888 - For the first time the public was admitted to the Washington Monument.

ATHLETICS:
1. VOLLEYBALL - AWAY vs. Santa Paula. Frosh game begins at 4PM, JV game begins at 5PM and Varsity at 6PM. Volleyball team is excused from class at 2:30PM to depart FHS at 2:45PM.
2. SWIM TEAM: All students interested in participating in swim team should attend a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 9th at lunch in Room 49. Important information will be handed out & discussed.
3. Girls Soccer - Tryouts for all levels of girls soccer will be from Oct. 8 – 24, Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays only. Any girl interested in playing must attend at the JV Baseball field at 3:30. Contact coach Johnny Vaca at 298-0403 for more info.
CLUBS:
1. ANIME CLUB – meeting on Thursday at lunch in Rm. 34.
2. Hiking Club: Meeting Thurs. 10/9/08. at lunch in Rm. 59. All our welcome. We will be planning our next hike and talking about our upcoming fundraisers.
3. MECHA CLUB – meeting Thursday at lunch.
4. FASHION CLUB – meets every Wednesday & Friday at lunch in Rm. 34.
SENIORS:
1. UC Santa Cruz will be hosting a “Preview Day” on Saturday, October 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For complete details, see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center or go to www.admissions.ucsc.edu/pday08.
2. CSUCI will be hosting a “High School Senior Day” on Saturday, October 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You must R.S.V.P. at http://go.csuci.edu/hssday.
3. Senior Ball tickets will be on sell this week in the Student Store during lunch. $40 a couple and $20 single. Senior Ball will be held on Oct. 25th and the theme is “All that Jazz”
SCHOLARSHIPS:
o The Horatio Alger Association is offering a scholarship to students who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. You must apply online at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships/apply.cfm. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Larin. Deadline is October 30th.
o The Coca Cola Foundation is offering a scholarship. You must apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Larin. Deadline is October 31st.
JUNIORS & SOPHOMORES:
1. The PSAT Tickets are now for sale in the Student Store. They cost $13.00. The test will be on Saturday, October 18th at 8:30 in Room 49.
FRESHMEN:
1. After break the freshmen class officers will begin to sell Pom Poms at the games and in the Student Store.
STUDENTS:
1. ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION – Every Tuesday & Thursday from 3:15-4:15 in Rm. 49
2. Are you in need of Credit Recovery? Saturday school will be available for Migrant students wishing to take a course through the PASS program to get ahead on credits; keep up with credits or recover credits. All courses are A through G approved. Classes start Saturday, Oct.11th at Fillmore Middle School Media Center (computer lab) with Mrs. Gradias from 9:00 to 12:00. You must fill out a PASS contract with Mrs. Ibarra or your counselor in the office. If you have any questions please speak to Mrs. Ibarra or you may call the Migrant Office at 524-8038.
3. If you are interested in being a referee for Youth Basketball sign-up at City Hall, Monday – Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. For additional information call 524-1500 X216. Season starts December 6, 2008 – February 28, 2009. Saturdays only, at the Fillmore Middle School (8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.) or the Boys and Girls (8:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.)
4. Class t-shirts – on sale in the Student Store. All shirts are $12. Get yours ASAP, so you can wear them to the next rally. Go Flashes!
5. Mark your agendas! Career day will be held on Friday, November 7th. We will be having a wide variety of career options, so get those questions ready.
6. Fillmore High students are invited to attend Science Night -- Noche de Ciencias -- at Ventura College East Campus in Santa Paula next Wednesday, October 15. Professional engineers and college engineering students will work with you to create two fun projects. Parents are welcome too. They will hear presentations on financial aid and how to choose a college from VC financial aid officers and counselors. There will be fun, food and prizes. A bus will pick up Fillmore students at the Second Street parking lot at 5:30 p.m. Return time from East Campus will be 9:00 p.m. For more information or a flyer, please see Ms. Norma.
STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. We are running out of space on the student network drive. Please ask your students to remove any files that they no longer use from their “My Documents” directory. We will be deleting all files from the student network drive that were created prior to August 1, 2008 on Friday October 10, 2008. If you have students with special requirements please let me know.
2. Attention! Dodger Baseball fans! After 20 years of watching others in the playoffs, it’s time to celebrate! Come by Rm. 39 to see a 25 year collection of historic Dodger t-shirts. Go Big Blue!
