PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: September 18, 1850 - Congress passed the Fugitive Slave Act, which required the return of escaped slaves to their owners.

ATHLETICS:
1. GIRLS GOLF – HOME w/Oaks Christian. Match begins at 3PM. Girls Golf Team is excused from class at 2PM.

CLUBS:
1. MECHA CLUB – meeting Thursday at lunch in Mrs. Juarez’s room. Come celebrate 16th of September today at lunch in the Quad.
2. First CSF club meeting of the year will be this Thursday, September 18th at lunch in Room 60 (Ms Hoffman’s room) at 12:30. If you plan to attend, please eat lunch on campus that day – you’ll have 10 min. to get lunch and make it to the meeting. We will be electing officers and discussing a possible fundraiser.
3. Hiking Club: If you plan on attending Friday’s hike, you must attend a mandatory meeting in Rm. 59 at Lunch on Thurs. 9/18. All permission slips must be turned in at this time or you will be unable to participate in this trip.

SENIORS:
1. Need more help with SAT prep? SAT Workshops Dates: Workshop #1 (Verbal) Date: 9/22/08 Time: 3:15 – 5:30pm. Room #49. Workshop #2 (Math) Date: 9/23/08, Time: 3:15 – 5:30pm. Room #61. STUDENTS:
1. The One Step A La Vez has opened a Teen Drop-In Center at the Episcopal Church (aka The Chocolate Church) on the corner of Saratoga and Second Street. They are open Monday – Thursday from 3 – 6 p.m. They have computers to help with homework, a place to hang out, free professional counseling, and nutrition and yoga classes. Please stop by. Contact Mirna Magana in Rm. 10 or call her at 910-6642 if you have any questions.
2. Mentor Program: After School Mentors today 3:10-4:30pm -Meet in Rm 10 and we will pick up the Little's at the B&G Club.
3. Mentor Program: Make Up Training Friday 9/19 3:15-5:15am Rm 49 or Saturday 8-10am at -The One Step Center located 600 Saratoga -corner of Second Street and Saratoga. This is the last time to complete the required training.
4. Mentor Program: Mentors that have signed up for the Griffith Observatory field trip need to return their permission slip to Rm. 10 by Sep. 19.
5. Mentor Program: Officers meeting this Friday Rm 10. Lunch Provided.
6. September 19th is the registration deadline for the October 25th ACT test. You can register on-line at www.actstudent.org. See your counselor for more information.
7. September 26th is the registration deadline for the November 1st SAT reasoning and subject tests. You can register on-line at www.collegeboard.com. See your counselor for more information.
8. Tickets for the Homecoming Dance will go on sale Sept. 17th! Be the first one in line! The dance will be on Saturday, Sept. 27th from 7 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. This year it will be semi-formal, so get dress up! Tickets will be $3.00 with an ASB sticker or $5.00 without.
9. Homecoming Dress Up Days: Monday – Jersey Day (wear jerseys of your favorite team; Tuesday – “Twister” Day (wear polka dots); Wednesday – “Checkers” Day (wear plaid or checkered clothes); Thursday – “Scrabble” Day (wear shirts with words). Friday – “Flashes Pride” (wear blue and white).
10. All students who were involved in the RELAY FOR LIFE, please see Mr. Andersen in Rm. 62. He needs your help at half-time on Friday.

STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. Don’t forget that we will have class meetings on Friday in the gym. Freshmen – 1st period; Sophomores – 2nd period; Juniors – 3rd period and Seniors – 4th period. Students are to report to the gym AFTER ATTENDANCE IS TAKEN. The meeting WILL NOT take the entire period, so plan to return to class after the meeting.
