PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: December 2, 1823 - President James Monroe outlined his famous doctrine opposing European expansion in the Western Hemisphere.

LUNCH : Crispy Beef Taco, lettuce/tomato/cheese, Spanish rice.

ATHLETICS:
1. GIRLS SOCCER - HOME w/Camarillo. Frosh Game begins at 3:15PM. JV Game begins at 5:15PM, Varsity begins at 6:30PM. FROSH/SOPH GIRLS ONLY are excused from class at 1:50PM and are to report to the field.
2. JV FOOTBALL PLAYERS - The following players need to return their football gear to Coach Dann. Jesus Alvarado, Joe Barragan, Joseph Castenada, Daniel Cruz, Josh Frias, Gilbert Medina, Vince Meraz, Brandon Nelson, Joe Reyes, Jonathan Sandoval
3. WRESTLERS - Just a reminder that in addition to paying your $85.00 participation fee, each wrestler will also need to pay an additional $10.00 for your hydration test.
CLUBS:
1. Middle School Mentors – Holiday party this Wednesday from 3:30 – 5:30 at the Middle School. Please RSVP to Alice in Rm. 10.
2. PRAYER CLUB – meets Wednesday at lunch in Rm. 2.
3. ART CLUB meeting Tuesday at lunch in room 34
4. FASHION CLUB - meeting Wednesday at lunch in room 34
5. ANIME CLUB meeting Thursday at lunch in room 34
6. AVID CLUB: MEETING TODAY IN ROOM 59. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR AVID JUNIORS TO ATTEND.
7. HIKING CLUB: Mandatory Meeting on Thurs. if you plan on going on Sat. hike to Tar Creek.
SENIORS:
1. Seniors: Pick up your senior T-shirts in the Health office before school and during lunch. If you owe $$ pay your money in the student store and bring your receipt to Janice. Last orders are being taken until Wed. at 3 pm. Forms are in the student store.
2. Seniors: Josten’s will be here on Thurs. and Friday during break and at lunch to take orders for cap and gowns and announcements.
Scholarships:
o The AIA/AAF Minority Disadvantaged Scholarship is available to students who plan on entering a professional degree program at an NAAB- accredited program of architecture. You must be nominated for this scholarship. For complete details, see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center or go to http://www.archfoundation.org/aaf/aaf/Programs.Fellowships.htm. Deadline is Dec 8th.
o The AXA Achievement Community Scholarship is available to students who are U.S citizens or legal residents, plan to enroll full time in an accredited two year of four year college and university. Students must also demonstrate ambition and self-drive. You must be recommended by an unrelated adult. For complete details, see Mrs. Larin or go to www.axa-achievement.com. Deadline is Dec 15th.
o The CAASFEP is offering a scholarship to students who plan to enroll in an accredited college or university. One scholarship will be awarded to a student planning to pursue a career in education. The other scholarship will be awarded to a student planning to pursue a career in any field. Students must demonstrate a commitment to school, academics and community activities. Students must also have a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. For complete details see Mrs. Larin. Deadline is December 15th
o SAE Engineering is offering a scholarship to students who intend to enroll in an engineering program accredited by ABET. For complete details, see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center or go to www.sae.org/students/unscholr.htm. Deadline is December 1st.
STUDENTS:
1. ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION – Every Tuesday & Thursday from 3:15-4:15 in Rm. 49
2. The Film Script deadline for the Film Festival has been extended! Now get your application from Mr. Overton, and turn in your finished script by this Friday, Dec. 5th! Get started now to qualify for the $2m500.00 scholarship or one of four brand new laptop computers! See Mr. Overton now!
3. Ventura College is continuing to offer a “Landscape and Plant Identification” course at Fillmore High School this coming Spring Semester. If interested, see your counselor to sign up as soon as possible.
4. Ventura College will be in the College and Career Center on December 4th and December 11th during lunch to sign up students who are interested in taking college classes in the spring.
5. Enter the Lions’ Club speech contest and win $50 with a chance to win $21,250. Top is “Water – Will California Be Left High and Dry?” Open to all students. To enter see Mr. Overton or call Bill Edmonds – 524-4839.
6. One Step A La Vez - The Nutrition cooking class will be happening at 4pm. The Stress group will be happening at 5pm
STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. PITCH IN FOR PETS! Many local families have to give up their beloved pets due to financial difficulties. Help keep pets with their families by donating to "Pitch in for Pets" sponsored by the FHS Band. Bring canned and bagged pet foods to room 19. Donate money in third period. The class with the highest combined total of donations will receive a pizza party. Pet food will be distributed to local families who need a helping hand and pet rescues.
STUDENTS & PARENTS:
1. The district office has asked us to remind you that we only have a 2 week break during the Winter Holiday. Please remind your parents that we expect you all to stay in school until the final day – December 19th. We will continue to remind you at times during the rest of the year. This generally is a time when we have a high absence rate, and we are hoping that by reminding your families early, they will plan to postpone any holiday travel until after December 19th. Thank you.
