PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: February 3, 1870 - The 15th Amendment (black suffrage) passed.

ATHLETICS:
1. GIRLS BASKETBALL - HOME w/ LA REINA. JV game begins at 5:30PM, Varsity game begins at 7PM.
2. PATCH ORDER - Athletes, if you would like to order any patches, please see Lynn in the Student Store.
3. Boys Golf - mandatory meeting at the start of lunch in room 31 on Tuesday 2/3.
CLUBS:
4. ATTENTION UC AMBASSADORS! We will be holding a lunch meeting on Tuesday, February 3rd at lunch in room 61 to welcome Mrs. Palacio
back and to talk about fund raising. Also, there will be an update on tutor training. See you then! Ms. Moriarty and Mrs. Palacio
5. FASHION CLUB – meeting Wednesday at lunch in Rm. 34.
6. Hiking Club: Meeting Thurs. Feb. 5th during lunch in Rm.59. Next hike Friday Feb. 13th.
7. AVID Club: Meets Tuesday, 2/3 in Rm.59.
SENIORS:
1. Meeting on Tues. at lunch in Rm. 65. Very important fund raiser for Central Station. We still need $$$$.for Senior Activities.
2. Seniors, the Wall of College Acceptances is up and waiting for your information. Please let Mrs. Ashim know when you have been accepted
to college, and your name will be placed on the wall.

• The Fillmore Alumni Scholarship - applications must be returned to the alumni office, 549 Sespe Ave., Suite #6 no later than 3:30 p.m., Fri., Feb. 27th.
• The KFC scholarship is available to students who have a 2.75 GPA or higher, plan to enroll in a public (state funded) college or university to pursue a bachelor’s
degree. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students must apply online at http://www.act.org/kfcscholars/index.html. Deadline is Feb 10th.
• CSUCI is offering the “Prestigious President’s Scholar Program Scholarship” to students who plan to attend CSUCI, have a minimum of a 3.75 GPA, and have
a minimum score of 1200 on Sat-1 (combined critical reading and math portions of the exam) or 26 on ACT tests. You must apply online at
www.csuci.edu/financialaid/scholarship.htm. Deadline is Feb 13th.
• Best Buy is offering a scholarship to students who have a 2.5 GPA or higher, actively involved in community service or work experience, and plan to enroll in an
accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational/technical school. You must apply online at https://bestbuy.scholarshipamerica.org. Deadline is Feb
15th.
STUDENTS:
1. Pennies for Patients fundraiser starts today, and continues through Feb. 20th. Bring in change to your 2nd period class to help those
affected by leukemia.
2. Art Club is selling Valentine grams for $1. Order yours today for delivery on Feb. 12. Stop by Room 34 or buy them at lunch in the
quad.
3. The AVID junior class is selling Valentine bears. See any AVID junior and order yours today. Bears will be delivered on Thurs. 2/12
during 5th period.
4. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and nothing says “I Love You” like a carnation. Sales are Feb. 4-11 for $2 each. Red=love,
yellow=friendship, pink=crush.
5. February 10th is the registration deadline for the March 14th SAT reasoning test (the subject tests will NOT be administered on this date). You
can register on-line at www.collegeboard.com. See your counselor for more information.
6. Lions Club Speech contest – TONIGHT.
7. Want to watch Fillmore High School Pep Squad perform but can’t travel to competitions, well now you can. The FHS Pep Squad is hosting their
second annual cheer showcase on Thursday February 5th at 7:30. Tickets are on sale now for $3.00 and $5.00 at the door. Please find a
cheerleader to purchase one…come and support the girls.
8. LIBRARY CLOSED BEFORE SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY. Because we have CAHSEE testing in Rm. 49, the teachers will meet for
collaboration in the library on Wednesday morning.
9. This Wed is the start of the new Section of Creative Self Expressions class at the One Step. This class is open to anyone who would like to
lean more about themselves, and how everyone is an artist. It is led by a professor.
10. There is a meeting of the One Step Board our final meeting before our Grand Opening this Saturday. Anyone is welcome to join us.
11. One Step - Thursday is our monthly Teen Group. Anyone is welcome to come talk about whatever is on their mind - problems with parents,
friends, or school. This is a safe place to be yourself. It is lead by a Fillmore Options Counselor.
12. LOCKERS - If you have been or are currently sharing a locker with a student that has “check-out” and no longer attends FHS, please remove
your belongings from their locker. You are only supposed to use the locker that is assigned to you. We have NEW STUDENTS are in need of
lockers.
13. Students who come to the library during class time will now need to sign in. The sign in sheet is on the library counter. Library sign in will occur
only during class time, not during lunch, break, after or before school.
TEACHERS: Please remember to send students to the library with their agenda book signed by you. We are trying to monitor the traffic flow and
keep track of who is coming in and for what reason. Thanks.
