PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: December 17, 1944 - The U.S. Army announced the end of its policy of holding Japanese-Americans in internment camps, allowing "evacuees" to return home.

1. FOOTBALL PLAYERS: The following players have yet to turn in a portion of or all of their football equipment, per the Athletic code grades are to be withheld until equipment is turned in. Also if you are involved in a Winter Sport you will be unable to re not supposed to be able to participate in any other sport until all equipment is turned in.

CLUBS:
1. Prayer Club: Tonight all are welcome to join us as we sing Christmas carols at Orange Blossom Villa. Meet at 5:45 p.m. at McDonald’s. Look for Mrs. Archer and Mr. Bedau.
2. Mentor Program: All Community Mentees -Holiday Party at the One Step Center this Wed. 17th from 3:30-8pm.
3. Mentor Program: All high school "Bigs" & "One Step" students are invited to the Holiday party this Thursday from 12:30-3pm @ the One Step Center -there will be gifts, food & more to thank you for your hard work.
SENIORS:
1. Please see Mrs. Curnett ASAP if you are going to need transcripts for college applications. She will be out of the office January 12th through the 16th. Do not wait until the last minute!
Scholarships: See Mrs. Larin in the College & Career Center for details.
• Ventura County Community Foundation Scholarship can be picked up from Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center. Do not wait until the last minute to apply! Make sure to follow all instructions or you can be disqualified. Deadline is Jan 16th.
• Dell Scholarship is available to students who have a 2.4 GPA or better, demonstrate need for financial assistance, must be participating in approved college readiness programs for a minimum of two years, plan to attend a four year university, and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. You must apply online at http://www.dellscholars.org/. Deadline is Jan. 15th.
• Gate Millennium Scholars Program Scholarship - submitted online by January 12, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. EST or the paper application postmarked on or before January 12, 2009. www.gmsp.org.
STUDENTS:
1. Schedule changes can be made this week after school from 1:00-3:00 (1:30 – 3:00 on Wed.) If you are planning to be a Teacher’s Aide next semester, you will need to see Mrs. Green THIS WEEK to get your Teacher’s Aide Contract.
2. The new PASS class will start on January 10th. If you need to take a test before then, see Ms. Schieferle in Rm. 65.
3. ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION –Thursday & Friday at 12:15 in Rm. 49
4. Come audition for FHS’s next big show, “Trouble in Dustville”. Lots of parts available for this melodrama, so come to the drama room on Dec. 18 & 19 from 1-3 p.m. No experience? No Problem? We need LOTS of people. Questions? See Mr. Overton.
5. BAND STUDENTS - The jams you ordered will be here after school, on Wed., Dec. 17. All band students pick up your jams for delivery.
6. December 26th is the registration deadline for the January 24th SAT reasoning and subject tests. You can register on-line at www.collegeboard.com. See your counselor for more information.
7. January 6th is the registration deadline for the February 7th ACT tests. You can register on-line at www.act.org. See your counselor for more information.
8. There will be math tutoring available Tues, Wed, and Thurs for all math levels at the One Step Center. The center will be open until 7:30. They will be having a workshop that will help students apply step by step for the Bill and Melinda Gates scholarship and the Ventura County Community Foundation Scholarships. The workshop starts this Wed at 6:10pm and will be on going for the next month.
