PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: January 7, 1953 - Harry Truman announced that the U.S. had developed the hydrogen bomb.

LU NCH: Baked chicken, mashed potatoes, corn.

ATHLETICS:
1. SWIM TEAM: Conditioning and weights begin today, Wednesday, Jan. 7th at 3:15 PM. Meet in front of gym. Try-outs on Friday and Saturday. See Coach Cindy Blatt for details. You must have completed your physical and turned in paperwork in order to participate in conditioning and try-outs. If you have not yet completed your paperwork contact Cindy Blatt 906-4114 or report to gym at 3:15 PM and then you will be released.
2. Baseball Try-outs - Friday January 9th and Saturday Jan. 10th. Time is TBD
3. Football Banquet Potluck Dinner – Monday, January 12th at 6:00 in the Cafeteria.

CLUBS:
1. PRAYER CLUB meets Thursday at lunch in Rm. 2. All are welcome.

SENIORS:
1. Please see Mrs. Curnett ASAP if you are going to need transcripts for college applications. She will be out of the office January 12th through the 16th. Do not wait until the last minute!
Scholarships: See Mrs. Larin in the College & Career Center for details.
• Ventura County Community Foundation Scholarship can be picked up from Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center. Do not wait until the last minute to apply! Make sure to follow all instructions or you can be disqualified. Deadline is Jan 16th.
• Dell Scholarship is available to students who have a 2.4 GPA or better, demonstrate need for financial assistance, must be participating in approved college readiness programs for a minimum of two years, plan to attend a four year university, and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. You must apply online at http://www.dellscholars.org/. Deadline is Jan. 15th.
• Gate Millennium Scholars Program Scholarship - submitted online by January 12, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. EST or the paper application postmarked on or before January 12, 2009. www.gmsp.org.
• The APIASF Scholarship is available to students who are Asian and/or Pacific Islander, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, plan to enroll full time in an accredited college or university, have a 2.7 GPA or better, and must complete the FAFSA. You should apply online. For complete details see Mrs. Larin or go to http://www.apiasf.org/scholarship_app/. Deadline is Jan 19th.
• The William S. Davila Fund is offering a scholarship to students who are planning to attend an accredited four year college or university. Students must also work in the food industry or sons and daughters of parents working in the food industry. For complete details, see Mrs. Larin or go to www.sms.scholarshipamerica.org/davila. Deadline is Jan. 20th.

JUNIORS:
1. Discover Scholarship - go to www.discoverfinancial.com/community or see Mrs. Larin in the College and Career Center. Deadline is January 31st.

STUDENTS:
1. Schedule changes need to be made this week. No schedule changes after Friday, January 9th.
2. The new PASS class will start on January 10th. If you need to take a test before then, see Ms. Schieferle in Rm. 65.
3. ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION –Tuesday & Thursday in Rm. 49 at 3:15.
4. The library is now open every Wednesday morning for study hall from 7:30 - 9:00 am. Staff will be in the library to assist with homework, research, etc. Please take advantage of this opportunity.
5. It’s Scholarship time at the One Step Center! Come get help on essays ask questions and have your applications hand delivered all this week!
Thursday at 5pm there is a teen talk group come learn about issues facing teens talk about concerns with family, friends, stress, or anything else that's on your mind lead by a Fillmore Options counselor
6. One Step is Hiring!! Come by the Center (make a left at the library to the chocolate church) or Rm. 10 and pick up an application fill it out and return it to Hilary (In rm. 10) or Eron Chavez by Monday the 12th must be ages 15 -19. Were looking for two people who are energetic and outgoing to help us expand our services! If you are a high school senior you must not be leaving the county for college.
7. The One Step Board will be having a meeting tomorrow at lunch.
8. Get your Winter Formal tickets early and save some money…This year’s theme is Candy Land…Tickets will go on sale this Wednesday starting at $50.00 for couples and $30.00 for single. Next week the price will go up to $60.00 a couple and $35.00 single.
9. The Ventura College Intro to Automotive Technology class begins next Wednesday, January 14. The class meets every Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:45 p.m. See your counselor ASAP to get sign-up forms or call the VC East Campus at 525-7136 for more information.

STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. The Fillmore Girls Basketball program is having a fundraiser on January 25th. The Herrera Family will be performing in a concert in the Sespe Auditorium at 3:00 p.m. on that date. All funds will be donated to the Lady Flashes Basketball program. Both the varsity and JV teams are selling the tickets. The girls would appreciate your support.
