PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: September 10, 1963 - Twenty black students entered public schools in Birmingham, Mobile, and Tuskegee, Alabama, after President John F. Kennedy sent National Guardsman to end the standoff with Alabama Governor George Wallace.

ATHLETICS:
1. ATHLETES: Remember you are not allowed to participate in any FALL SPORT until you have been CLEARED and your PARTICIPATION FEES have been paid.
CLUBS:
1. UC Ambassador Club: Officers meeting Wednesday, September 10th at lunch in Room 61. See you then! Mrs. Palacio and Ms. Moriarty
2. PRAYER CLUB meets TODAY at lunch in Rm. 2. All are welcome.
3. ANIME CLUB – it’s not too late to join. Meetings every Thursday at lunch in Rm. 34. Bring your lunch and ideas.
4. ART CLUB is having a Car Wash this Saturday from 9 – 2 in the Super A Parking lot. Cars - $7.00 and SUV’s/Trucks - $10. Please come and support the Art Club. Contact President Miguel Alonso or Vice-President Tanya Arana, or any other Art Club member for tickets.
SENIORS:
o Wendy’s High School Heisman offers a scholarship to male and female student athletes who exhibit excellence in the classroom, on the playing field, and within their communities. Students must also have at least a “B” average and participate in at least one of the 32 sports. Application must be submitted in September to allow time for review. STUDENTS:
1. Administrative detention – Every Tuesday & Thursday – in Rm. 49 at 3:15. Here’s your chance to clear all your detentions in one shot! Attend detention on Thursday 9/11 in Rm. 49 from 3:15 – 4:15 and all of your detentions will be CLEARED! Outstanding detentions will prevent you from attending the football game.
2. Mentor Program: Required Mentor/Big training this Friday Sep. 12 Rm. 49 from 3:15-5:15pm. Please be on time.
3. One Step A la Vez- Are you interested in a Teen Wellness Center? Do you want to make this possible?
Join us for our lunch meeting, Wednesday, 9/10 during lunch in Rm. 10. All Students are welcomed. If you RSVP'd, your lunch will be picked up for you.
4. September 19th is the registration deadline for the October 25th ACT test. You can register on-line at www.actstudent.org. See your counselor for more information.
5. ANY MIGRANT STUDENT WHO IS INTERESTED IN RECOVERING CREDITS THROUGH THE P.A.S.S. PROGRAM, PLEASE SEE YOUR COUNSELOR OR MRS. IBARRA IN THE OFFICE. CLASS WILL BE SATURDAY'S FROM 9A-1P IN MR. ANDERSEN'S RM. 62.
6. MAKE-UP PICTURES - The photographer will be here TODAY from 7:30AM until 11:AM for Picture Make-Ups and Retakes. Picture Packets will be available in the Student Store. Don’t forget that it will be a Collaboration Day, so if you did not get your picture taken at registration, please report to the Student Store BEFORE school.
7. Tickets for the Homecoming Dance will go on sale Sept. 17th! Be the first one in line! The dance will be on Saturday, Sept. 27th from 7 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. This year it will be semi-formal, so get dress up! Tickets wil be $3.00 with an ASB sticker or $5.00 without.
8. AFTERSCHOOL HOMEWORK CENTERS AVAILABLE AT: MT. VISTA SCHOOL, BUILDING C; RANCHO SESPE, CESAR CHAVEZ MEMORIAL HALL; PIRU, COLINA VISTA APARTMENTS ACTIVITY HALL. COMPUTERS AND INTERNET ARE AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS.
STUDENTS & STAFF:
1. Calling all clubs, students and staff: If you would like to participate in the Homecoming Parade on September 26th or have any ideas for entrees, contact ASB as soon as possible.
STAFF:
1. STAFF ID’s -This year Mr. Wilber has asked that all FHS Staff have ID’s. Please make time on September 10th between 7:30AM – 11AM to stop-by the Student Store to have your ID Pictures taken.
