Police seek information from public
On Friday, January 25, 2013, at approximately 2119 hours, Santa Paula Police Officers responded to the call of a Robbery at Little Caesars Pizza at 309 W. Harvard Blvd in Santa Paula. Two suspects entered the restaurant with at least one of the suspects armed with a handgun. Both suspects fled the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of money. About 15 minutes after the call of the robbery at Little Caesar’s Pizza, at approximately 2134 hours, Santa Paula Police Officers responded to a call of a robbery at Rancho Sunset Market. The suspects matched the description of the previous suspects and at least one of them was armed with a handgun. The suspects fled the market with an undisclosed amount of money. On Sunday, January 27, 2013, at approximately 1357 hours, two suspects entered Los Compadres Fashion at 949 E. Main Street. The two suspects grabbed an undisclosed amout of money and gold jewelry from the display cases then fled in an awaiting vehicle. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. It is unknown if the robbery at Los Compadres Fashion is related to the previous two robberies. There have been no arrests made in connection with these robberies. The investigation into the robberies is ongoing and investigators are asking anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact Detective Michael Hoppin at 525-4474 ext. 287. Ken Clark |

After 89 years of service the Sun Rise Rotary is retiring the club banner. Sun Risers have merged with Rotary Club of Fillmore to create a more vital, stronger club. The last meeting of the Rotary Club of Fillmore Sun Risers was held January 16 at the William L. Morris Chevrolet dealership. After presentations for special merit, the presiding member of the meeting stated, “Mr. President, the time has come to ring the bell to end this last meeting of the Rotary Club of Fillmore Sun Risers and retire the club banner.” The following summarizes the history and notable achievements of the club. |

Oh thank Heaven for Seven-Eleven
On Monday, January 21st, at 7:11am, the Fillmore Fire Department responded to a woman in labor at the corner of B Street and Ventura, at the Seven-Eleven convenience market. Upon arrival Fire personnel found Julie E. Bernal, of Fillmore, in her Astro minivan, about to give birth. Firefighter/Medics Toller, Rolfe and Firefighter Katz helped with the delivery of the new baby boy, Caleb Sanchez-Bernal, before AMR Ambulance arrived on scene. Caleb weighed in at 7 lbs 6 ounces, 20.5 inches. The baby’s father, Aminadab Sanchez, of Santa Paula, and Grandpa Bernal were present. Mother and “Astro Boy” are doing well. Pictured is Medic Toller, delivering the healthy baby boy. The Bernal family is grateful to the Fillmore Fire Department for their quick response and delivery-room expertise. |

On Tuesday, January 22, 2013, the Fillmore Fire Department responded to a traffic collision at the corner of Ventura St. and Fillmore Street at approxiametly 7:45 am. This was a vehicle vs. motorcycle, minor to moderate injuries to the motorcyclist. Driver was shaken but no injuries to report. Enlarge Photo |

On Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at around 6:15 p.m. Fillmore Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on the 500 Block of Kensington Street. Fire crew arrived on scene to find smoke and flames coming from the front balcony area (second floor) of the two story apartment building. Fillmore Fire personnel launched an aggressive attack on the fire and was able to extinguish the flames quickly before it spread to the interior of the building and to any other structures.
