On 05/05/2012 Ortiz entered a business in the 2900 block of Vineyard Ave. Ortiz displayed a hand gun and demanded money from the clerk. After receiving the money, Ortiz exited the store and fled the area as police were being called.

An Oxnard City Police Officer responding to the area saw Ortiz standing near a parked vehicle on Cortez street. As the officer attempted to contact Ortiz, Ortiz began shooting at the officer. Ortiz was quickly disarmed and taken into custody with the help of the officer’s K-9 partner. Ortiz was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained by the K-9 during the arrest. Neither the officer nor his K-9 partner received any injuries.

Ortiz was arrested for Armed Robbery and Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.
