Arrest of security employee at senior living complex

Ventura County Sheriff's Department A Thousand Oak man was arrested after being linked to several residential burglaries of senior citizen homes in a senior living community. The man, Michael South, was the security director for the senior living complex. Over the last weekend of March (2014), Thousand Oaks Police investigators received information that Michael South was possibly in possession of stolen property from one of the residents at a senior living complex in Thousand Oaks. An investigation revealed that South, (director of security), was involved in numerous burglaries and thefts from residents of the complex. Due to South’s position at the complex, he had key access to the senior citizen homes. A search warrant was done on South’s home, which resulted in investigators finding additional victims as well as their property. The types of property taken from residents were guns, jewelry, medication and other household items. South was booked into the Ventura County Jail for numerous felony residential burglary charges, elder abuse and possession of stolen property.
