Assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer

Ventura County Sheriff's Department On June 28, 2012 at approximately 1:30 PM, deputies from the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to a threats call in the 4900 block of Via Mesita. They initiated an investigation that led them to contacting Arun Padhi outside of his residence. Padhi immediately became aggressive and uncooperative with the deputies. Padhi went back to his house and eventually sat down on a chair outside and next to his garage. When the deputies attempted to re-contact Padhi, he picked up a double-barreled sawed off shotgun and pointed it at them. The deputies drew their handguns while moving to a safer location while commanding Padhi to drop his weapon. Padhi complied with deputies’ directions to drop the shotgun. Padhi was taken into custody and booked into the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Detectives from the East County Investigation Bureau responded to the scene and took over the investigation. A search warrant was obtained for Padhi’s residence, which led to the seizure of several more firearms and evidence related to the crime. Padhi’s bail has been set at $250,000.00 dollars pending his arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court. Nature of Incident: Assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
