Battery on a Peace Officer, Narcotics Arrest

Ventura County Sheriff's Department Incident RB#: 09-30412 Suspects: Address: Age: Dion Darvel Barnett Oxnard 32 On December 11, 2009, at approximately 10:35 PM, the Camarillo Police Department received a call of “suspicious circumstances.” A female had called “911” and left the telephone line open for the dispatcher to hear her conversation. Based upon the conversation heard by the dispatcher, it appeared that a male suspect was holding the female caller against her will in a vehicle. The wireless call was traced to the area of Edward’s Cinema in Camarillo. Deputies from the Camarillo Police Department responded to the area in an attempt to locate the caller and suspect. Upon arrival, the original female caller contacted deputies and she indicated the male suspect had taken off running into Edward’s Cinema. The deputies entered the theatre and chased the suspect through the theatre. The suspect left the theatre through an emergency exit and continued running towards the Camarillo Promenade/Outlet Mall area. Several deputies eventually caught the suspect and the suspect fought for several minutes with the deputies. In order to overcome the suspect’s resistance, deputies deployed their tasers and utilized a Sheriff’s K-9. The suspect was arrested for battery on a peace officer, battery on a police K-9, resisting arrest, parole violation and possession of a controlled substance for sale. He was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center for treatment injuries sustained during the struggle. |
