The Camarillo Police Department would like the public to be aware of a coupon book scam that occurred in the neighborhoods surrounding the Old Town area, earlier this week. A black female, 5’07 / 120 pounds, carrying a clipboard contacted the victim at his residence stating she was selling a coupon book for $80.00 to benefit the local Boy’s and Girl’s Club. The female told the victim that if he purchased the book, he would need to go to the local Boy’s and Girl’s Club to pick up the coupon book. The victim wrote a check to a company called “La Familia Management Company” and was given a receipt with an address out of Aurora, Illinois.

The victim went to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club with his receipt only to find out he had been a victim of a scam. The Camarillo Boy’s and Girl’s Club is not selling coupon books nor have they authorized anyone to sell coupon books on their behalf. If you have been a victim of this scam or have any information relating to this scam, please contact the Camarillo Police Department to report the information. The Camarillo Police Department would like to remind citizen’s that solicitors are required to have valid solicitor permits in their possession, and to ask the solicitor to see their permit which is issued by the city of Camarillo at City Hall.

If the solicitor cannot provide the permit, you are not sure if the permit is authentic or the solicitor is acting in a suspicious manner, please immediately call our dispatch center at 805-654-9511 or 911so a deputy can respond and investigate. If the person(s) are associated with a vehicle, provide an approximate year, make, model, color and license plate number and last direction of travel.
