Carjacking

![]() Ventura County Sheriff's Department On March 2, 2013, at approximately 2:50 AM, the dispatch center of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office received a call of male subject walking around in the 2200 block of Dawn Court in the City of Thousand Oaks. The subject had injuries on his face and was requesting assistance from residents. Patrol deputies arrived first on scene and initiated an investigation. It was learned that the victim had met the suspect, Robert Brian Joyce, a few hours earlier. Joyce asked the victim if he could give him a ride home and the victim agreed. While in the car, Joyce pointed a handgun at the victim and directed him where to drive. The victim eventually stopped his vehicle at which time he was assaulted and his car was stolen. Detectives with the East County Major Crimes Unit and the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit responded and handled the follow-up investigation. Joyce was quickly identified as the prime suspect. At approximately 4:10 PM, Joyce was seen in another vehicle in the area of Janss Road at Montgomery Road. Joyce was taken into custody without any injuries to him or the deputies involved. The stolen vehicle was also later recovered. Joyce was booked into the Ventura County Jail for carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm, and kidnapping. His bail is currently set at $125,000 dollars pending his arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court.
