Child Luring and Extortion

Jeremy Sears, Moorpark, 22 On August 15, 2013, the Moorpark Police Department and East County Sexual Assault Unit arrested Jeremy Sears near Mountain Meadow Park for luring a minor and extortion. The investigation revealed that Sears posed as a juvenile female on the Internet and struck up an online relationship with the male juvenile victim. Sears then arranged a meeting at a local park, still posing as a female. When the victim arrived, Sears attempted to engage the victim in inappropriate behavior. Later the same week, Sears again attempted to engage the victim in inappropriate sexual conduct, using threats in an attempt to gain compliance. Sears was arrested for child luring and extortion. He was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, and his bail was set at $50,000. Based on the investigation, investigators are concerned there might be additional victims who have not reported the crimes.
