Commercial Burglary
By Ventura County Sheriff Department — Tuesday, June 1st, 2010
Ventura County Sheriff's Department Deputies with the Thousand Oaks Police Department arrested Alex Shahkaramian in connection with a commercial burglary at the CVS Pharmacy at 451 S. Reino Rd. At 10:49 pm on May 27, 2010, Deputies responded to an alarm call at the CVS Pharmacy. The alarm company advised there were multiple alarm activations within the store, mostly in the pharmacy area. The first Deputies on scene discovered the rear door to the CVS had been forced open. A perimeter was established around the CVS, and a Senior Deputy with the Ventura County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit was sent to the location. A team of Deputies, along with the Sheriff’s K-9, entered the front of the CVS to search for suspects. The Sheriff’s K-9 located Shahkaramian in the rear area of the store. Shahkaramian was bitten by the Sheriff’s K-9, but he and an accomplice were able to flee the business leaving out the rear door that had been forced open. Deputies outside the rear door of the business took Shahkaramian into custody after he jumped a fence into the drainage canal directly to the west of the business. Shahkaramian’s accomplice ran north toward Kimber Road, and was able to escape the perimeter by running through the backyard of a residence on South Fallbrook Avenue. A search of the surrounding area was conducted, but Shahkaramian’s accomplice was not located. It appeared that pharmaceuticals were the target of this burglary. The suspects brought a large trashcan into the store, similar in size to a curbside residential trashcan. That trashcan was filled with over-the-counter and prescription medications, as were two smaller containers that belonged to CVS. All three of the containers were left inside the store, near the rear door that had been forced open. Shahkaramian was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura on one count of commercial burglary and one count of resisting arrest. His bail has been set at $10,000.00. Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against the person(s) responsible for this crime. The caller may remain anonymous. The call is not recorded. Call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477). Location: CVS Pharmacy 451 S. Reino Rd. Newbury Park, CA Officer Preparing Release: Det.
