Counterfeiting, Identity Theft, Forgery, Narcotic Violations and the Recovery of Stolen Property

Ventura County Sheriff's Department On May 12, 2011, investigators assigned to the Camarillo Police Department’s Special Enforcement Detail initiated an investigation into possible prostitution activity at the Quality Inn, located at 984 Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo. During that time, unrelated to the prostitution investigation, 33-year-old Sara Lynn Gregory was contacted in the Quality Inn parking lot. Investigators soon determined Gregory was under the influence of a controlled substance and further investigation linked her to two male subjects staying in room 104. The ensuing investigation resulted in both subjects being located inside the room. They were identified as 29-year-old Dan Lee Hulsey and 36-year-old Duane Darrell Hope, Jr. Hulsey is currently on probation and investigators immediately became aware of two felony warrants for his arrest. In addition, Hulsey was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Hope consented to a search of his person and was found to be in possession of a small quantity of methamphetamine. He was also under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of the room revealed evidence of a counterfeiting operation, Identity theft, forgery involving personal checks and stolen property from recent local burglaries. As the investigation progressed, additional evidence revealed Hulsey recently entered at least three retail stores in the city of Thousand Oaks, passing counterfeit currency. The Secret Service and the Thousand Oaks Detective Bureau have been notified and the investigation is continuing. Sara Lynn Gregory was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Dan Lee Hulsey was arrested for felony warrants, identity theft, forgery, counterfeit seal, and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Duane Darrell Hope, Jr. was arrested for identity theft, forgery, counterfeit seal, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance.
