Fatal Traffic Collision

Ventura County Sheriff's Department RB#: 09-30712 Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of an injury traffic collision that occurred on Lewis Road (SR-34) near Germain Street, in the City of Camarillo. As a result of the traffic collision, a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) struck the victim, who was riding a bicycle. The victim was wearing dark colored clothing and had no lights on his bicycle. During the traffic collision, the victim sustained serious injuries including a broken leg and head trauma. The victim was transported by ambulance to St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, and then later moved to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was in critical condition. At 12:25 a.m. the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by doctors at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy later today. Also, assisting with the traffic collision was the Ventura County Fire Department and American Medical Response (A.M.R.) personnel. As a result of the traffic collision, a portion of Lewis Road between Germain Street and Adolfo Road was closed for approximately 5 hours, while traffic was diverted around the area. The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the accident, and who has not yet come forward, is asked to contact the Camarillo Police Department’s Traffic Bureau. |
