Gang Members in Possession of Loaded Firearms

 Santa Paula Police Department On Saturday, June 29, 2013 at approximately 1945 hours, Santa Paula Police Officers, working a concentrated enforcement detail, due to recent gang activity, conducted a traffic stop of a gold Honda Accord. The vehicle had been observed in the area of 7th Street and Santa Barbara Street, within close proximity of the recent homicide and appeared suspicious to the officers. During the traffic stop it was found that the vehicle was occupied by three members of a Santa Paula criminal street gang, Mayra Montiel 23 yrs, Emilio Montiel 30 yrs, and Eric Medrano 20 yrs. Emilio Montiel was found to be on active probation and parole (PROS) early release. Eric Medrano was found to be on active probation. In accordance with their parole and probation terms a probation search of the vehicle was conducted. In plain view, in Mayra Montiel's purse, a loaded pistol was located. During the probation search of the vehicle 2 additional firearms were located, one of which was loaded. All three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and later lodged at Ventura County Main Jail under the following charges: Emilio Montiel: 25850(c)(3) PC; Gang Member Carrying a Loaded Firearm, 25400(a)(3) PC; Carrying a Concealed Weapon in a Vehicle, 25850(c)(1) PC; Felon Carrying a Loaded Firearm, 30305(a)(1) PC; Felon in Possession of Ammunition, 140(a) PC; Witness Intimidation, 186.22(a) PC; Participation in a Criminal Street Gang, 182(a)(1) PC; Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and 664/246 PC: Attempted Shooting into an Inhabited Dwelling. Mayra Montiel: 25850(c)(3) PC; Gang Member Carrying a Loaded Firearm, 25400(a)(3) PC; Carrying a Concealed Weapon in a Vehicle, 25850(a) PC; Carrying a Loaded Firearm, 140(a) PC; Witness Intimidation, 186.22(a) PC; Participation in a Criminal Street Gang, 182(a)(1) PC; Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and 664/246 PC: Attempted Shooting into an Inhabited Dwelling.
