Ventura County Sheriff's Department

A shooting occurred in the El Rio unincorporated area. An injured male victim was discovered by Sheriff's deputies at the intersection of Salem Ave. and Cortez St. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation is continuing.

At about 9:47 p.m., the Sheriff's Communication Center received 9-1-1 calls of a male subject down in the street. Deputies and Fire/Ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after. The victim was treated at the scene for an apparent gunshot wound. The cause of the death has not been determined. An autopsy is pending.

Sheriff's Homicide detectives are handling the investigation. The victim has not been identified at this time. Anyone with information about this crime can report it to Sheriff's Homicide at (805) 384-4730.
