Injury Hit & Run Accident / DUI

Santa Paula Police Department On Friday, August 16, 2013 at approximately 1943 hrs, SPPD Bike Patrol Officer, Chad Peplinski, witnessed the aftermath of a traffic collision in the area of 10th Street and Harvard Blvd. Immediately following the collision, the driver of a red Chevy Tahoe fled the scene traveling east on Harvard Blvd. Patrol officers responded to the area and with the assistance of multiple bystanders, officers were able to locate the fleeing vehicle. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Ventura Street and 10th Street however, the driver failed to yield to the officers emergency lights and siren. Officers pursued the vehicle through surface streets at which point it is believed the vehicle became disabled in the area of 8th Street and Main Street. SPPD officers, with the assistance of deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, took the suspect into custody without further incident. The suspect was identified as 21 year old, Omar Navarette, of Santa Paula. Navarette was arrested on suspicion of Felony Hit & Run, Felony Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, Felony Evading, and for being an Unlicensed Driver. The victim, Jorge Duran of Santa Paula, was transported to the Santa Paula Hospital with minor injuries. Nature of Incident: Injury Hit & Run Accident / DUI |
