Major Crimes detectives and Jail personnel are investigating an inmate death that occurred at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura. The death appears to be from natural causes. There was no indication of violence or suspicious circumstances.

On August 4, 2012, at approximately 10:20 p.m., during routine cell checks, deputies noticed the inmate not breathing. They entered the cell where they found the inmate unresponsive. Emergency aid was rendered by deputies. Ventura County Fire personnel and paramedics were summoned and performed advanced life saving support. The inmate was pronounced dead at the jail shortly thereafter.

The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, pending an autopsy by the Medical Examiner. The name of the decedent is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
