Mail Theft/ Identity Theft

 Ventura County Sheriff's Department In the early part of September, Camarillo Police Department received several reports of a white 4-door sedan accompanied by two Hispanic females’ possibly stealing mail and committing residential burglaries in the Las Posas Estates area of Camarillo. The Neighborhood watch program in the area was utilized to make the residents aware of the situation and to inform them to contact the Camarillo Police Department if this vehicle or any suspicious activity was observed in the area. On 9/20/13, a resident in the Las Posas Estates observed a suspicious white vehicle in the area. The resident took a picture of the vehicle and forwarded the information to the Camarillo Police Department. From this one report, the Camarillo Police Department was able to identify the below pictured vehicle and associated persons. On 9/29/13, at approximately 0537 hours, a Camarillo patrol officer located and stopped the vehicle on Las Posas Road in the city of Camarillo. The Driver, Carmen Esqueda, was on Ventura County Probation for forgery and identity theft. A search of the vehicle yielded recent stolen mail, forged documents, and controlled substances. Esqueda was arrested and booked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Main Jail for felony counts of identity thefts, forgery, and possession of a controlled substance. Hayes was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The Camarillo Police Department would like to remind citizens that mail theft is very common and often leads to identity theft. Locked mail boxes can help prevent the theft of mail.
