On 8-13-2009, around 7:30 am, Camarillo Police Department responded to a possible mountain lion sighting in the Calleguas Creek wash between Upland Road and Creekside Road. A woman was walking in the creek area when she reported seeing what appeared to be a mountain lion. Police checked the area and nothing was found. Fish and Game and Ventura County Animal Control were notified of the incident. No other sightings have been reported.
The Department of Fish and Game recommends that if you live in an area where you're surrounded by wildlife, make sure children and pets are in from dusk until dawn, because that's when animals like coyotes, bobcats, etc, are out looking for prey. Mountain lions are secretive animals that generally prefer to avoid people.
If you happen to see a mountain lion or think you see one, please call 9-1-1 immediately. Do not approach the lion. For more information on what to do if you see a mountain lion, visit the Department of Fish and Game’s website at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/.
