Multi-Fatal traffic collision involving two vehicles

Ventura County Sheriff's Department On 09-19-2011, at about 6:01 A.M., Camarillo patrol units were dispatched to an injury traffic collision on Pleasant Valley Road, ½ mile west of Southfield Road in Camarillo. Patrol units arrived and discovered a two-vehicle accident. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1997 Toyota Camry, driven by a male adult was eastbound on Pleasant Valley Road when it was broadsided by a 2002 Cadillac sedan as the driver of the Toyota began to pass another car, lost control, and turned in front of the Cadillac traveling in the opposite direction. The collision occurred after the hours of darkness, with limited visibility due to foggy weather conditions. The impact caused fatal injuries to four of the five occupants in the Toyota. Three were pronounced dead at the scene while a fourth man, whom was transported via ambulance to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The fifth victim in the Toyota is expected to survive and suffered numerous injuries including head injuries. The driver of the Cadillac was transported via ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit, with a broken foot, broken ribs, and other internal injuries. The collision is still under investigation. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the accident. As a result of the accident Pleasant Valley Road was closed for approximately seven hours while the collision was being investigated. The Ventura County Coroner’s Office will be the responsible agency for releasing information related to the deceased victims.
