Ventura County Sheriff's Department Locations: Highway 33 near Lockwood Valley Road, Ojai Date: September 4, 2009 Unit Responsible: Lockwood Valley Patrol, Special Services Bureau / Narcotics Unit Suspects City of residence Age Gabino Osornio-Ambriz Shafter 29 On September 4th, Senior Deputy Clark and Deputy Hollowell, resident Lockwood Valley patrol deputies, were patrolling Highway 33 between Lockwood Valley Road and Rose Valley, when they stopped a car for a vehicle code violation. During the stop, the deputies discovered that a passenger in the vehicle, Gabino Ambriz, was in possession of approximately one and one half pounds of freshly processed marijuana and a 9mm handgun. The subsequent investigation revealed that the marijuana seized during this incident was grown in a large marijuana garden in Ventura County’s backcountry. Investigators learned that the suspects were armed to protect the illegal cultivations. The Sheriff’s Department urges those who use the Los Padres National Forest to be cautious when venturing off marked trails and roadways.
