Ojai Citizen Academy

Ventura County Sheriff's Department On April 11th, 2011, the Ojai Police Department will begin its 3rd Citizen's Academy program. It's a ten-week course designed to give citizens an overview of the police department's function and operational procedures. There will be presentations by a superior court judge, K-9 officer, S.W.A.T. team members, bomb squad, narcotic officers, and many others. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet the Chief of Police and get a comprehensive tour of the police station. There will be field trips to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility (main jail), Sheriff's Dispatch, the Sheriff's Training Academy, and heliport. Participants will also get the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a patrol deputy. Anyone interested in attending the Citizen's Academy can get an application at the Ojai Police Station, the city of Ojai website at http://www.ci.ojai.ca.us/ or the Sheriff’s Department website at www.VCSD.org. Potential candidates must be at least 18 years of age, live or work in Ojai or the unincorporated area of the Ojai Valley, have no felony convictions, and have no misdemeanor convictions within one year of applying. Classes will meet on Monday evenings beginning April 11th, 2011, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for ten weeks and will be held at the Ojai Police Station.
