Statement from Dr. Paul Chounet, Superintendent
Santa Paula Elementary School District
The Santa Paula Police Department today issued a press statement about the alleged assault of a student on the grounds of a Santa Paula Elementary School District elementary school.
The Police Department informed us that the mother of a third-grade student at McKevett Elementary School had reported a sexual assault by a member of the public that occurred on school grounds. The student said the incident occurred on Nov. 30 but he did not report it to police until Dec. 5. Neither the child nor the parent ever reported the alleged incident to the school district.
Santa Paula police, Child Protective Services and medical personnel have investigated the child’s report. SPESD officials are cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation and are conducting their own investigation.
The safety of our children is paramount. Parents should feel assured that our campuses are safe environments for their students.
We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate the latest information to our parents and to the public.
