During the early afternoon, at approximately 2:18 p.m., the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department received a 911-cell phone transfer from the California Highway Patrol. The caller, a passerby, reported seeing a lifeless male subject in the rocks off of the shoulder of Pacific Coast Highway. Sheriff’s deputies arrived a short time later, and confirmed the subject was deceased. The scene was secured and members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and the Coroner’s Office were dispatched.

The male decedent was identified as the gunshot victim reported yesterday, based on the description that was provided by the female passenger who first reported this incident. Although the official cause of death has yet to be determined by the Coroner, it appears as though the victim suffered a gunshot wound. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating this as a homicide.
