Residential Burglaries in Thousand Oaks

Ventura County Sheriff's Department On April 25, 2011, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., four separate residential burglaries occurred within the City of Thousand Oaks. All of these crimes occurred while the homeowners were away from their residences. The suspect forced entry into the homes through backyard windows and doors. The suspect then stole jewelry, clothing, and electronics. At approximately 9:30 p.m. on the same date, San Diego County Sheriff’s Drug and Gang Unit served a search warrant on an unrelated case at suspect David Cates’ residence in Vista, CA. The deputies located stolen property from two of the Thousand Oaks burglaries. Detectives from the Thousand Oaks Police Department coordinated a large scale investigation with San Diego County Sheriff’s Department during the next several days. Thousand Oaks Detectives then converged on Cates’ residence in Vista and served a search warrant with the assistance of San Diego County Sheriffs. Additional stolen property from the Thousand Oaks burglaries was recovered at the residence. On May 19, 2011, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed multiple counts of residential burglary against Cates. Cates is currently in the custody of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department on unrelated charges and will be extradited back to Ventura County to face these charges. Location: City of Thousand Oaks |
