Shooting Suspect Arrested

Ventura County Sheriff's Department On 1-18-2012, at about 5:00 P.M., Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of a shooting victim at 826 Will Ave, unincorporated area of El Rio. When deputies arrived, they discovered an adult male suffering from a single gunshot wound that had passed through both legs. An initial investigation found that the victim was walking in the area of George Street and Will Ave. when a Red Toyota 4-runner pulled up next to him. A male suspect in the passenger’s seat displayed a handgun and demanded money. When the victim stated he had no money, the suspect shot the victim one time. The Suspect Vehicle was last seen driving southbound on George Street. The Victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. On 1-19-2012, Oxnard Police officers stopped a red Toyota 4runner in the City of Oxnard. The driver, Filberto Cardenas, was found to be on parole. A search of Cardenas found that he was in possession of narcotics paraphernalia and was in violation of Oxnard’s gang injunction. He was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail. Gang investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff Gang Unit searched the 4-runner and found ammunition similar to the type used in the previous days shooting. Gang investigators also found evidence linking a subject named Christopher Marquez to the shooting. On 1-21-2012, gang investigators located Marquez near his home in the 1700 Blk of Sophia, Oxnard. Marquez was in violation of Oxnard’s gang injunction and arrested. A search of his home located clothing worn during the shooting as well as additional ammunition similar to the type already seized. Gang investigators had obtained enough information to arrest Marquez on additional charges that included attempted murder and attempted robbery. He was booked into the Ventura County Sheriff’s Pre-Trail Detention Facility, Ventura where he remains on $500,000 bail. Nature of Incident: Shooting Suspect Arrested |
